GI Joe 2: Retaliation

I keep seeing "professional" reviews saying this was better than ROC.

It wasn't.

And the first one sucked.

How is this making money?

Better than ROC and a half-step in the right direction.

I agree that the pacing was a little off...plus the size of just a few Joes managing to bring down COBRA's elaborate plan was just ridiculous. However, they did get some things right. I think Rock was great as Roadblock, the Snake-Eyes and Storm Shadow stuff was pretty fun and awesome, Lady Jaye was 100x hotter than Scarlett's actress but unfortunately didn't bring as much as that girl did, and Cobra Commander FINALLY looked like Cobra Commander.

With that being said. Hasbro. You screwed it all up. Reboot it. Let the G.I. Joe franchise sit...marinate and just start from scratch. The first one was a big toy commercial and this one TRIED to bring it back with some level of bad-assitude but the script and casting was just not strong enough. Bringing in the Rock, Willis and even Tatum's extra scenes were just not enough.

I liked that they took a more realistic approach, they weren't afraid to "kill" characters and people, but the first movie really soiled things for this one.

By the way, I loved Stevenson's Firefly. Stevenson is an awesome actor in any role I see him in.



The sad thing overall is that G.I. Joe can be so much better if it was taken seriously. It's a story that is VERY relevant to today's world with terrorism a focal point. The problem is that it is a property owned by a toy company that caters to kids so it will be very difficult for Hasbro to EVER deliver a GI Joe movie the longtime fans really want to see. I've always pictured a movie which ties the origins of the Joe team and Cobra together, where mysterious and more organized terrorist attacks begin to take place and the only tie to all of them is the mysterious Cobra logo that all the terrorists are wearing. Even mention how European, Middle-Eastern, and terrorist groups who would normally be at odds are now all working together under the banner of "Cobra". The Joe team is shown forming as an elite task force of the military's elite with a mission to investigate and stop these attacks. Blahblah...I can go on...but it might be a while before we ever see that.

Colton having some tank in his garage. They could have at least made it a Armadillo or something.

The "HISS" tanks. They mentioned getting more horsepower out of it, yet you never saw them move around much, if at all. Should have just used ASP's at the end.

The hovercraft CC rides up on, would have been neat for them to have Copperhead drive it instead of some random swat looking guy.

Garbage. The whole movie was. This was not right step in any direction.

plus all the Joes were unrecognizable wearing the same camo outfits.Roadrock,Puketum,Flint,Brenda? are all miscasted and sucked

Zartan sucked-we never really saw him- looked nothing like his character

Destro got tossed out for no reason- "Your out of the band" what???

Son wanted to go see this, only cost $4 so i said wth....while it wasn't a great masterpiece is was watchable, but i have to say if it wasn't for the Rock and Willis in it for the whole 10mins he was in it, i think i would of fell asleep. the first one was a piece of crap, this one was a good smelling piece of crap....

Same. but haven't seen much. First movie I went to theatres for was OZ. Which was "ok" at best.

Next movie I will go see is Oblivion. Unless the reviews are crap.
But I like cool sci-fi stuff and action though.
