Doh! Corrected, I think... My only excuse is I have been sick all week, so I'm not firing on all geek cylinders right now :sick

No worries Jay... Figured it had to be a metal fart given how well thought out your response was.

In the end I see several artists influence in this entire piece; from Ordway, Byrne, Lee, to yeah Ross. Just like I see multle influences in the Batman PF.

I will say I think your impression of the age may be getting thrown odd by SSCs choice of "dramatic" lighting. This PF is side and back lit in EVERY photo which is geeing out his hair completely. Now I put this pic together to compare the SDCC and New Portraits under natural light, and I think it drops about 5 years off his age.

I also upped the saturation in this pic to get rid of some of the grey

And I think that THIS pic shows a nice 36-45 year old Supes

I also totally admit that the Alex Ross influence is the strongest IMHO, but I see far more of his younger version from Justice then I do his older version from Kingdom Come. What I will say is that I think they took the strong Jas that the KC Supes had in spades, and it is really influencing what people are seeing.

The Ex... I like it, and I am not NEARLY the only one... Almost 45% of the people polled at SF have no issues with it. Would I love to see a third just red eyes head, yeah, but only because I like variety and I want others to be happy with their pieces, but in the end I am TOTALLY pumped for this.

Elliots logic exceeds that of mortal men. :lol

He HAS CONVICTION!! I respect that. Now if he ordered the Reg froSSC instead of an AD:cuckoo:
THEY ARE COMING!
Just an another quick crop:)

Oh and I am saving that one too...lol

He didn't say he ordered an Reg from SSC. Probabbly from retail dealer. :dunno

He asked for the link for the regular on Sideshow's site.

As I said above if he ordered the Reg from SSC directly that is just crazy sauce...:cuckoo:

Kinda doesn't make sense lol
I get that you don't like the funky eyes. But when it's the same price, and basically they are throwing that in for FREE. And this combination will be more RARE, why not just get it? You never know.

Someone might want to see with that head displayed. Or someone might want to buy the extra head off you, because their's broke.

Or one day if you do happen to want to sell or need to sell it, you might even make a profit selling the EX version of this statue.

Again, if it's available and no additional cost to you, why wouldn't you just get it? lol

:)

Spidey,

You are so right. You can shave at least 5 years off just by changing the lighting. That's why it's always hard to tell how great a piece you've got until you pull it from the package (some of my favorite moments). I have a feeling, in hand, I'll be jumping for joy. Just when you're after a grail item (like this is for me), the worry it won't live up to expectation is persistent.

And, like the age, maybe the Ex will look better to me in different light, or even blow me away in person. It's hard to picture Sideshow screwing up arguably the most famous superhero in the world.

Then again, GL didn't exactly set the world on fire... poor guy.

Honestly, and I Know this sounds odd... But I can't wait to see the videos and pics of this from SDCC 2013. They will REALLY show us how this will/can look when it comes out. I am also hoping to see the long warned Batman portrait there as well as the only pics I have seen of that one are in the SSC site.

I'm going to start by saying I got my Ex PO as soon as it went up(hitting refresh much of the afternoon), and I'm happy I did so. However, I've had time to sleep on it and wanted to ask/share with my peers this question:

Are you, or were you, disappointed with the final reveal? (And please be civil, I'm not trying to start a flame war. I just want an honest, open discussion. There are no wrong opinions.)

I'll be honest, when I first looked at it, all I saw was the Alex Ross' older, Kingdom Come Superman (put some grey in the temples and black on the shield and voila!). Disclaimer: Ross' work is spectacular and this is not a condemnation of any of it.

Sideshow had shown throughout development Ross was going to be a major influence, but I figured other iterations would be taken into account and also influence the final sculpt (considering everyone has a different fav version of Supes, whether that's pre-New 52 Lee, Christopher Reeve, or heck, Mullet Superman). They did something similar with Bats by making his suit grey and a deep blue to hit the middle ground between the Black cowl and the classic blue.

But yesterday, as I hovered over the purchase button (for all of 3 milliseconds, but that seemed like an eternity) I saw nothing but Ross. I've always pictured Supes as 30 to 40 years old, but I thought this guy looked more like 50! (hence, Kingdom Come)

"Where's my Superman?" I thought. "Oh, yes, the Ex with heat vision eyes, that'll make things all better!"

:slap

I don't think I need to comment on the eyes, as everyone has pretty much voiced the same "worm" concerns. But, considering this was my safety net, my "If I'm not in a Ross mood, I'll throw on the heat vision and my eyes will be drawn more to that than the sculpt." Which, I guess still holds true but for VERY different reasons.

Now, ending this long rambling story, I have had a night to sleep on it, and I no longer just see Ross' influence in the regular sculpt. I now see some minor influences from other artists, and he doesn't look as old as I originally thought (though he does look older than I prefer). So, oddly, now I'm favoring the original sculpt while the heat vision Ex is the sculpt I'm questioning. I honestly hope the "smoke" or "heat" is detachable at this point because simple red, metallic eyes would look better than what we're seeing (IMHO).

Anyone else with similar thoughts? Again, no wrong answers, I'm just curious.

I honestly don't see how anyone can say this looks like Kingdom Come Supes. Where does anyone see a 50 yr old Supes in the SSC proto pics of the PF? He does look like SuperMAN instead of SuperBOY. However, isn't that what we want? A Superman in his mid 30's is fine with me. IMHO, that's what we got.

This is without question the very best Superman statue I have laid eyes on. It's not even close. As far as I'm concerned, there isn't even a runner up in my book. This piece is on a whole other level of Superman statues.

I don't see how you can't... :dunno

My concern is the ray vision wormy look.

Raf had an excellent idea for the heat vision ... keep the eyes blue as they are now, and then have a hole where the pupil is with led lights in behind the pupil.

When you turn them on, then the red led light lights up, with the blue painted eye surrounding it.

I think that would be a fantastic way to show the heat ray! What are the chances of SS changing it to this idea?

Much prefer the slightly older Superman/Batman look; a twenty year old looking superhero doesn't inspire much confidance.
