Perhaps the single shot fired before the fire was Dorner turning the gun on himself.

That's the first thing I thought, but it could have been from LAPD as well. Maybe a sniper on the task force.

Apparently rumours are also spinning that he had an ammo cache in there as well so the ammo could have been going off as the fire started?

I've been watching some of the up-close footage of the fire fight, it was pretty intense. Sounds like Dorner had a couple automatic rifles and was letting hell loose.

Although they said they haven't found a body yet; they really haven't searched cause the fires are too hot. Weird. They say that anyone saying they found are not true.

They have a chared body. They have not "determined" if it was him. They said it could take weeks to get a 100% positive identity. With that said they stopped searching vehicles just before the started the final operation to force him out of the house(he obviously chose not to leave the house) which would lead one to belive at that point they were sure they had him in the house not someone else.
