1. Charlie Holloway just does not come across as a credible scientist whatsoever. For the sake of disbelief suspension I just have to assume that he met Shaw early in his "career" and simply rode her coattails of knowledge and discipline.

He picked some bad coattails to ride then, because she's an idiot as well. She makes HUGE leaps in logic and poor decisions throughout the movie, just a few examples:

1. The cave paintings depict Aliens (with zero evidence)

2. The cave paintings are an invitation (with zero evidence)

3. The figures depicted in the paintings created Humans (with zero evidence)

4. It's ok to remove her helmet on an alien planet since her boyfriend did it and he appears to be ok.. after a whole 10 seconds.

5. Doesn't care about contaminating the environment until she actually sees physical evidence of it in the room with the urns i.e. when it's too late.

6. Finds the greatest discovery in human history (an alien creatures head) and decides to juice it up with electricity instead of preserving it like a real scientist would do.

7. Runs DNA comparison test, discovers humans and Engineers have a 100% match for unique genetic markers, automatically assumes that means they made us as opposed to the more logical conclusion that they're simply our ancestors.

There's more but you get the point. Shes a dum dum just like all the other "scientists" in the movie. :lol

2. What's with the two guys standing guard outside Weyland's door when Vickers goes in to talk to him? They obviously stay on the ship and die in the crash but its funny that Jadek doesn't even ackowldege them when giving those in the cockpit the option to escape or die with him. :lol

:lol:lol:lol

3. Now after watching the extended Engineer scene its kind of funny that in the theatrical cut when Weyland's trying to get Shaw to shut up she gets hit in the stomach and he turns and says, "David, continue!" except that at that point in the theatrical cut David hadn't actually begun speaking yet. :D

He actually had. He said something to the Engineer while Shaw and Weyland were arguing. It's hard to hear with them bickering but I'm positive he began speaking to him.

Realistically.. there's only a few minor, stupid WTF moments in the movie and none of them ruin it IMO. There's a big difference between debate/discussion and entertainment. In here, we dissect the film and discuss every flaw but while watching it I guarantee you won't notice 95% of the stuff that's been talked about (at least during your first viewing).

I'm sure outside this forum and avpgalaxy people don't really give a **** about anything that's been mentioned in here. This place destroys even the very best films.:lol

Shaw is fine. She's a faith based philosopher searching for answers. That combined with her day job as a scientist makes her the perfect candidate for Weyland's mission. At least I could *buy* her as having a scientific day job. Charlie not so much. He isn't unbelievable as a character, just a scientist IMO. As stated in the film Weyland wanted true believers and he was that but nothing more.

4. It's ok to remove her helmet on an alien planet since her boyfriend did it and he appears to be ok.. after a whole 10 seconds.

Yeah that was obviously dumb. Regardless I liked the pay-off later on when she kept her helmet on and got the hint from David of what really happened to Charlie.

5. Doesn't care about contaminating the environment until she actually sees physical evidence of it in the room with the urns i.e. when it's too late.

6. Finds the greatest discovery in human history (an alien creatures head) and decides to juice it up with electricity instead of preserving it like a real scientist would do.

Again, philosopher seeking explanations over a scientist performing an autopsy. She wanted to talk to him (at least that's what I assumed, why else they want to make the head think it was "alive.")

7. Runs DNA comparison test, discovers humans and Engineers have a 100% match for unique genetic markers, automatically assumes that means they made us as opposed to the more logical conclusion that they're simply our ancestors.

Again, I think the film made it pretty clear that she didn't have that all spelled out for her, she recognized she was making a leap because that's what she wanted to believe.

My wife pointed it out when we watched it again the other night so I imediately rewound it. In the theatrical cut Shaw buts in before David can get a word in.

Has anyone here watched the Prometheus: Weyland Investors Extended Cut?

Basically the deleted and alternate scenes have been edited back in.

I watched it the other day and really enjoyed seeing those scenes back in the film. I'm not sure if I preferred the theatrical Shaw and Holloway bedroom scene. The alternate version removes any mention of Shaw not being able to have children.

I'd rate the films are:

Theatrical Cut - 7/10
Extended Cut - 8/10

It's worth hunting down.

PsychoCenobite :horror

Interesting, might look for it...

I wouldn't say she was stupid....she was just a believer. She did admit she was wrong. :D

But if there was any problem with the air, the doohicky's on the scanner.

But eh.

Hmmm.. I could swear while all that drama was going on David was trying to say something. And keep in mind, it wasn't on-camera so you don't see him, that's why it's hard to catch.

If not, that's some bad editing like you said.

Pretty hard to have a conversation with a 2000 year old decapitated head with no vocal cords no matter how much electricity you pump into it Khev. :lol

Shaw noticed, what she thought was an infection/growth that started to spread before the decapitation. So her hope was by stimulating the cells maybe "it" i.e. the infection/growth would continue to develop/spread. Which it did. Right before it exploded. :lol

Yeah, but I just take it as "David, continue trying to speak to him, ignore her!" I just know from the extended cut that that's not really how it was supposed to go. :)

Ah, thank you. Yes it seemed odd to try and "wake up" the dead engineer head but I just wasn't getting what they were trying to do. Something was in the process of happening to his skin and they just wanted to see what would play out. Gotcha.
