I'm getting the ex but ill display minus the helms. The sculpts at sdcc were too good to not show off.

Oh, guess it confirms it then. I had no clue. Good choice.
An idea - It is possible to display the alt heads by using old chess pieces as bases, similar to weta helms.

I might be an idiot for asking, but is this part of the new statue line or something from the dio line? I know the dio line is on hiatus, so I'm guessing the former.

it's not exactly new, it's part of the lotr 1/5 maquette series that started a few years ago. we are just missing 1 piece now to complete the fellowship.

It's possible but I don't think that's going to happen. Makes much more sense for it to e the other way around.

Let's see if Sideshow raises the price in our beloved maquette line again or if they're going back to 250$.

I figure with two it will be $275-300. I've got $75 in RP I'm thinking about using on it.

Can't wait to order this one.

This line isn't coming to a close after merry and pipin is it???

I get the impression from some of the comments i've read in places from non sideshow peeps that many think it might be.

I don't think so. I don't expect the pace to be more than 4-5 a year and it would be a good idea with the hobbit to keep that pace with the demand I think will be there.

Yeah, saw this on Sideshow's site around 4:30 / 5:00 Eastern last night but the forum site was down.

As gagaliya said, the statue line. Sideshow has come out and has all but said the dio line is finished, but the statue / maquette line would have some dio like pieces; the majority of us took that as the hobbits being sold together, as evidenced by this piece.

What if SS decides to make non-helmet versions ex and make the ones witn the helmes as seen in the picture regular?

It does, but the "teaser" shows Sam and Frodo with helmets on. Sideshow has a precedent of showing the regular versions in the teaser, and showing the EX pieces on the reveal the following Tuesday after the teaser.

However, if this is the case, I think Sideshow will be hard-pressed to sell the EX; I'm not sure anybody would prefer a statue of Samwise and Frodo with their faces covered.

Maybe Sideshow has another EX hidden up their sleeve? A print, perhaps?

I really hope you're right Josh. I need me a Faramir and others.

Me 2.:1-1:

Dino - that's possible but I would say the regular will be them without helms and ex with helms. Usually the regulars are what try take to comic-con and that's what they had there. So we shall see next week.

That's why I thought it might be the regular because I don't remember sideshow teasing ex pictures of products, not for the lotr line at least.

Displaying them with orc clothes was bad but the image with the hobbits wearing helmets is just horrible.. Who would display them like that after years and years of waiting for them to come out?

Making helmets ex.. NOT good at all. :gah:

I would have liked to have seen them in traditional hobbit clothes but this isn't a bad choice at all. It's from a pivotal part of the trilogy. It also actually shows both characters quiet well in where they're at and who they are. Frodo the ringbearer worn out by the task swatting at nothing, and Sam the protector. I personally will not display the helms but its always nice to have options.

You are my friend either working for SS or the most optimistic person I have ever seen :lol :goodpost:

I am eventually going to buy this therefore it's better for me to start seeing the good sides of it like you do and embrace it before it arrives home..

Any idea which day pre-order is going to open?

I wouldn't be surprised if SS dropped the line much sooner than that. Maybe they would finish with Merry and Pippin for the fans but I can't imagine this is a big seller for them. I mean the recent ESs have been damn tiny: 300 Twilight wraiths, 500 Dark Riders - neither blowing out the warehouse. Compare this to the 3000 ES of Arthas vs the cost of developing these pieces and then add in Tolkien licensing, I don't know. They must know that Hobbit stuff will be eating their sales as well so maybe a lull is in order.
