I'd imagine if anything Nathan will best what Lalla did... his work is just unreal and him unleashed on a Yoda (either Medi or SS) will be epic :lecture

And totally agree; camps evenly split is typical. And honestly probably expected given the nature of how different a puppet could look from one scene to the next. I mean the "you will be [afraid]" Yoda seems very different than the "Yoda, you seek Yoda" look a few scenes earlier.

This is an excellent point! :goodpost:

Absolutely gentlemen, there is no right or wrong here, it's all very subjective.

Having said that, you are all wrong and I am right.
:lol

Whoa, that Lalla painted Yoda is Balla! That's pretty much what I'm hoping for, although I think the eyes could be toned down a bit.

And it's true that my Repainted Medi Yoda wont be a fair comparison to the SSC figure out of the box, far from it. :lol I would also love to see what Nathan could so with the SSC version...someone get on that!

That is a nice custom. I should have pics of mine today. Finishing it now. My eyes are more toned down, but very screen realistic. I also went with a rougher, dirty puppet look to the paint job. Time for hair!:yess:

Here's the Yoda I just finished for Marf. I hope it at least compares to Lalla's. I went for the dirty puppet look.

Love how realistic and subtle the skin colouring is and the eyes look fantastic (liking the gloss and again, like that the pupil colouring transitions so subtly). Definitely looks more 'alive' to me than the stock Yoda. Thanks for posting these, was looking forward to it. In regards to comparing to Lalla, can't really do it, I think, as both are great interpretations and expertly done. They both look great.

Just for future reference, Silent, as I can read your sig, but would you be open to doing a Sideshow Yoda sometime in the future? I read a thread of yours a long time back (before you worked for Sideshow) and I remember you mentioning you get sick of working the same character multiple times (understandable) so no worries if you're not interested. Just curious if it's an option sometime down the road.

Sure, I'd be interested in seeing if a repaint on the Sideshow Yoda could do anything to improve it. I am seriously booked up right now though. It may be a while. Feel free to PM me every once in a while about it though.

Beautiful paint up! I much prefer the eyes painted like you did Silent, Lalla did amazing work as well, but those eyes are just wrong. And honestly I don't think you could paint that guy any nicer than you did :duff

Although now Yoda need some serious weathering, or at least a tea bath to match up :lecture

But having said that I still just don't like this sculpt... I think even more than the gauntness of it, something about the shape and bagginess of the eyes seems very wrong to my vision of Yoda.

I figured out what it is... for some reason the hollowed cheeks (bottom of them), eye shape and small nose remind me too much of this :lol

It's like if Yoda was actually an old woman, or a plastic surgery disaster.
**no disrespect intended or directed towards Nathan's phenomenal paint work in using his image here**

Has anyone tried weathering the Medi Yoda outfit? I am thinking of taking some sand paper to it along with some earth-toned pastels, but would love to hear some experienced tips if they're out there. :)

The one I got from DA (posted earlier) was weathered... I think you are right on your thoughts of how to do it.

I weathered my Medi Yoda outfit and body, it looks great, Hey Marf why don't you send me your new head and I can picture them together?

But seriously, I did actually weather it, use fine sandpaper, and then wet it. Put it back on then leave it dry in position. If you are making holes, don't cut them, sandpaper until you make a hole, it looks great.

I've found if you want to add a bit of color using diluted paints when the fabric is moist works well. Gives it a more worn in look as opposed to the paint only resting on the high points.

And the paint is diluted enough that you don't end up with stiff fabric.

Interested to see some custom sculptors take a shot at Yoda. I can't think of a single collectible - Medi and SSC 1/6 included - that have totally nailed him. Even Hasbro - which seems to have now nailed just about every SW character in 3 3/4" - have yet to even come close with Yoda.

Gorgeous paint up, silentsurfer.

Here are a few in-hand pics of Medi Yoda with Nathan's paint (I weathered his robes). :)
