before you guys say stuff like "then don't look at that thread" or "then don't buy them", please understand that this is just a musing about the state of the for sale thread these days.

i've been on these boards for a while now (even longer as a lurker), and it seems this board as lost a lot over the past few years. i remember when the there was a more collective community on here with less childish arguments and more enjoyment of this hobby. now it seems (with the rise of hot toys mainly) that the quality of these boards has diminished and become much more negative and less enjoyable.

now, i acknowledge that everyone is free to do whatever they want with their money and collectibles but sometimes i look through the for sale thread and it just pains me to see ppl abusing the boards. first of all, many sellers are on here just to sell. even more baffling is the insulting prices they put on their figures expecting ppl to actually pay that much. before you say "you mad because you can't buy them", please know that this isn't the case at all since i have stopped collecting hot toys for a while now. i know there are those out there who have clicked on for sale threads to laugh at the rip off some board members are trying to pull.

i guess my conclusion is that i miss the old days when members like darkseed were the majority, not the minority. they collected for the sake of loving the hobby, not to flip figures or complain about everything. for example, even a while ago there was a college student member on these forums calling me an uneducated person just because i disagreed with him on a figure's aesthetics and because he reads the economist every month. this is just a thread to discuss your thoughts but i predict there will the usual suspects bashing me.

Yeah, I do miss the "bro" prices on most things. I do feel that if you're going to charge Ebay prices, then you should take it to E-bay.

Or, you know, charging more than original retail for a piece that is open, with no box, and missing parts is also kinda silly IMO.

And before the hordes of " But i should be able to get a return on my investment" people pop in.

These are TOYS and LUXURY ITEMS, not investments. If it's popular enough that you can make a small amount of profit on it, Awesome.

The keyword there is SMALL. Original price 150$? 300 + shipping and paypal fee is MORE than fair. Just an example.
Asking 4-5 times the original price, on a board like this, is, IMO, bad form.

Shop the seller.I've dealt with awesome people giving great prices. Some posters you just learn to skip.

Cuts the other way for sellers too, with numbnuts buyers trying to squeeze a self-entitled deal out of them.

If people care that much maybe it'd be a good move to increase the number of posts required to deal.

Me I don't care. I just keep on moving.

Since your sharing your two sense I might just do my rant here.

I rarely post of toy forums anymore because of the situation you've mention but it's worse in Hong Kong forums.
A lot of people got on the wagon for 1:6 figures mainly buying Hot Toys. The popularity of Hot Toys have peaked to a high level. People buy mainly Hot Toys when it comes to 12" figures. They aren't collectors and often calls themselves "players" meaning people that play with their toys which I highly doubt. I don't believe an adult would still hold an action figure in each hand and duel. Maybe you do, that's your thing I respect that but I just think it's not about playing your toys anymore.
Anyways, I just feel like a lot of people are collecting Hot Toys just for the sake of it. Because it's the IN thing currently and to aim for 100% movie accurate or what's so ever is just silly to me. A lot of people always go for movie accuracy and the so called "high end standards" with rooted hair or keeping the joints as hidden as possible. It's not how these toys are suppose to be. They shouldn't always follow the same formula. That's how DC Universe Classics got boring.

I wonder if he knew that the Economist is a weekly periodical. . .anyway, moving along.

:lecture:lecture:lecture There are people here that think that just because they're members of this board, that instantly entitles them to less than fair market value. There's also the ****tards who expect to pay retail for loooooong sold out, rare HT figures but have a F/S thread trying to sell their NECA/McFarlane/Mezco kiddie garbage at ridiculously inflated prices. :lol

i understand the need or desire to make a small profit, and i dont feel entitled to anything since i rarely buy hot toys now. i am just stating my opinion when i see for sale threads that are trying to sell things at an insulting price. same thing for buyers too though. when i did sell my figures at a very fair price (always accepted lower offers and way below ebay prices), i would have pms from shameless people asking for huge discounts. these kinds of things take away from contributing meaningfully to this community and turning this place into another hot toys ebay market.

Agreed, great post.

Sadly, I think people who are considering selling their figures have a right to set their prices. No one has a monopoly on anything. They get to say at what number they'd be willing to part with any given item.

Of course, the issue of civility and sense of community is a shame. But I suppose it comes with increasing sales. The community gets bigger and will inevitably feel less communal.

i say we close down the for sale forum and not deal with it. Flippers, buyers getting screwed over and vice versa, bodie shipping posters a month late, ......

This reminds me, I need to go bump my sales thread.

And maybe raise my prices too.

I didn't know it was even possible to type and strut at the same time but you've figured it out :yess:

I don't know if my prices in my thread are too high but if no one seems to be biting I simply lower them. No big deal.

I don't think they are though, not for an international like me who pays more for my figures due to shipping and has to spend more to ship figures back out of my country.

Na your prices are fine m8.

I normally make a loss on everything except custom work. But i'd rather sell on here and make a loss than sell on ebay.

Same here. I've taken a hit on mostly everything I've sold for the same reasons you have. I love the forum and community so I sell here. I've actually sold more straight through PM and not even going through the Commerce section just because an opportunity presented itself.
For the most part I see a lot of good prices on here. Moreso than scalpers prices IMO. They are here though. Dicks with just enough posts to use the Commerce section.

I don't care about the prices or whatever, but I just wish I could find someone selling a set of black &white Neca turtles somewhere in the sea of Hot Toys threads. :)

Thanks for that. I think I've made some profits and some losses. I try to look at it as money that I now have that I would not have otherwise.
