Initial impression: The armor has a sheen that looks closer to plastic. So it probably needs to be aged a bit more. If nothing changes, the SS/W version will trump this one.

Um, from the pics I've seen so far, my initial reaction is that it looks a bit like a child dressed up in a Sauron outfit - the proportions just don't seem quite right.

Well 5 years ago we would all jump at buying this. Well maybe not everyone but I would have. Now, as my interests have widened it becomes easier to pass on pieces that are so expensive that have any little flaw in them. Still on the fence but will be checking eBay for the SSW one as well.

I should also say that in 3D the left leg seems less of an issue.

You think so?

I'm still unconvinced. IN The photos so far, the left leg makes Sauron look quite effeminate. Like a lady lifting her skirt. Take away that mace and attach the hip loin cloth to his left hand and he will look like a show girl from middle earth.

Also the left side of Sauron looks so busy: the leg bend, the mace resting and the head is even tilted a bit left. There is no balance in the pose.

The rest of the statue looks good IMO.

Yes. Sauron's head has always been big even in the movies.

I like the armor and orange glow.

It's just that left leg that bothers me. This piece is going to take up a helluva lotta space and I'm only going to get it if I'm 100% certain. Reselling it will be a beech so gotta be careful with the purchase.

To say it nicely, I will only say that this looks Nothing like the artwork it is supposed to be based on. I'd be highly disappointed if I had ever wanted to get one of these.

Well, after seeing some more pics my problem is no longer Sauron's head - it's the orange paint. It looks like a packet of Kraft macaroni and cheese powder exploded all over the base and his mace. I understand what they are going for with the glow from the lava and it looks as good as any painter could make it, but what works in a flat painting does not necessarily work in a 3-D sculpture. I guess it's not a big deal to most, but for some reason it really bugs me. I've never been a fan of painted light details on a statue and I'm pretty sure that this is gonna be a deal breaker for me.:( Not to mention how the painters in the factory might handle the orange highlights.
Overall pretty disappointed as I really was looking forward to The Morgul Lord, Dark Rider and Sauron PFs in one massive evil display. Although I won't be complaining about the money I'll be saving.:lol

Still I like WETA the most.
This one looks like he's trying to pick up Isildur for the night showing his sexy leg. :D

Man, some hard to please folks. This thing is off the charts good. It's as detailed as you can get, huge, pose looks great, and a must have IMO.

I like it overall... but I don't like painted light effects. The orange on the armor bothers me, its not as much as the new Vader piece. But I'd prefer to create my own lighting for a piece or better yet have some kind of light installed in the piece to give the desire effect :huh
