I just picked up the Ninja today, and while he has a bad ass sculpt, I still don't get why they painted him orange and not pink. I mean, even altering the color in Photoshop makes him look cooler than what was released (I borrowed the previous posters picks):

Don't know if that was a serious comment, in which case what the heck are you going on about, or being sarcastic, in which case the joke wasn't very funny

You do know what game this character is from and who it is, yes?

Always looked pink to me :dunno

Hmm, sorry to point out that your color sense might be a little skewed (and if you do in fact have a certain type of color blindness I really do apologize). If you have photoshop take one frame out of the video and use the eyedropper tool and see what color it is.

Also your "color-corrected" photo is just a desaturated orange, not really close to a pink like you were saying anyway.

Gray Fox's color scheme has always been orange and blue, it's been that way since the concept artwork and to the final game. The only different color scheme would be the red and blue one that they released as a secret color scheme.

I don't have any type of color-blindness, so you don't have to tip toe around that as being a possibility =). Next, the Photoshopped pic I did above was a desaturated red/purple. And finally, what I did was took three screen grabs from the video I linked to and each color came out as a shade of red.

I'm thinking maybe it's your memory of the game that's a bit eschewed if you think it's orange :huh

EDIT::

Even McFarlane's Ninja figure was pink

It's because the colours on the figure are too rich & bright. Colours should have been more dull I reckon. I don't know what to make of the news of an EX version with open helmet head sculpt. I'd probably feel a bit cheated if I purchased the original Fox.

When Hideo Kojima and Yoji Shinkawa designed Gray Fox originally, color scheme was orange and blue. When they color corrected the game all colors were toned down, desaturated.

In the original concept Shinkawa designed Fox as orange and blue, might have had in mind a lighter orange closer to a flesh tone but not pink.

PS1 graphics and YouTube video are going to yield different color results. Look at Twin Snakes, Gray Fox is undoubtedly orange and blue, this was after they revamped graphics too, so I doubt they would have changed from a 'pink' like you claimed to an orange. It's always been orange and blue.

And yes I do feel a bit ripped off because of the bundled open helmet with the red version. Didn't think they'd be that desperate to try and sell the red version.

Whelp, considering Twin Snakes was a remake , and not just a simple hd up-conversion of the original game, it's now an argument of which version you prefer. And since I played the first release in '98 (a whole six years before TS) and how I much prefer that version over the Gamecube one, it's the argument I'm fighting for over the color scheme.

Even looking at the Gamecube video you posted, it's arguable as to what tint of "flesh" color that is, be it red based or orange based. But regardless, the fact remains that Ninja was never orange like he is in the figure and that he should have stayed more neutral, be it "pink" or "flesh" or whatever you want to call it.

Why the change has come now with this figure is very confusing to me, especially since his original color was, yes, always pink in the promo materials and sketch drawings that were released in the late 90's. It's why McFarlane painted the first Ninja figure the way it was back then; it was always pink.

I played MGS back in '98, both on PS1 and also when it was released again on PC. I have the McFarlane ones, and I've looked at the sketches in the original MGS1 artbook, and they are all orange.

From what I understand there was no difference between these two, but their packaging was different so I got 2 anyways. :lol

If you want to directly compare the figure to the original game then it is certainly brighter and more vibrant. You have to also remember Shinkawa and Kojima supervised these so again I really doubt they would allow a release if the color scheme was not at least a type of orange.

Yoji Shinkawa's work also follows this color scheme very often, this orange and blue look. Think ZOE Jehuty, in both games. He pretty much took Gray Fox's color scheme and applied it right onto Jehuty when he was doing concept work for them.

I have the McF figure as well and I'd also say it is orange. This is the first time I have ever heard someone say it's pink. Someone commented on my flickr account that they thought it was blue and red (was that you IOE?).

Something like that in 1/6 scale would be legendary. Of course, I'd be priced out right off the bat :lol
