Re: Hot Toys - DX10 - Terminator 2 - DX T-800 Cyberdyne - Official Specs & Pics

Doesnt work like that for me. I usually put some money aside in advance, end up buying something else i never thought i would out of boredom. Then by the time the figure does come out i am no longer enthused enough for it. Especially since the gap for me feels like the last Predators figure we got was Tracker as when Classic came out i basically treat it like a p1 once i converted)

I'm pretty sure the US is Hot Toys' biggest market.

:lol I would have thought that Iron Man was bigger in Asia than the US. Most movies do bigger business in Asia than the US due to population alone. :dunno You might very well be right, though.

The upside of announcing figures in advance is that it gives people on lower incomes the chance to save and budget for items in advance.

Well there is the time from the initial pre-order lsiting to release which is about 6-8 months, that's plenty time to save for the figure.

Announcements have been happening in some case over a year before the figure goes live, then another 6-8 months before release, by that time people may spend the money elsewhere :dunno

Anyway i posted my thoughts on what the figure comes with vs what others have on FB...

"Every 'living tissue' Terminator since Hot Toys aquired likeness rights had had a second damaged head.

The T2 T800 is one of, if not the most iconic Terminator and yet he's been snubbed twice.

The first time made sense as the scenes he was depicted from he was clean without damage.

Yet for the Cyberdyne scene his face became batle damaged exposing the Endoskeleton on half of his face therefore he deserves a second BD head for this DX10 figure.

Not to mention this figure is a DX, meaning Deluxe, meaning it comes with more than most MMS figures and as it stands all Terminators have had second heads except for this and the previous version, 5/10 DX figures have had a second head with 7/10 having the ability for alternate expressions."

Mate i'd say the figures that have a 2nd BD head warranted it whereas the 2 T-800's don't. The first version would clearly be inaccurate with any form of BD headsculpt placed on it's undamaged body and this new version, well you could give him the semi-bd headsculpt but it would still be inaccurate as his torso gets damaged at the same time his face does. So that would mean you'd need a damaged torso, too. It's clear they are going to keep the BD looks to their own figure whereas marcus etc deserved a 2nd head.

I wouldn't have said no to a smirking 'Trust me' headsculpt though.

Yeah that would be awesome. I can see the need to flesh the package out as it is a DX and a pretty bare one at that. It's just a BD head of any kind would be inaccurate to the two releases we have gotten so far.

:rotfl That was a good DiFabio, but I think we (the USA) would be the "biggest" market no matter who you compared us to.:lol

I don't think you can use that argument when the MMS125 came with a BD head that you couln't even use on the figure it came with. That head was entirely useless to me, when I got the MMS125 when it originally came out, and it sat in the box until I just very recently got the MMS129. I think for the price we are paying, every "DX" should come with an extra HS, updated/companion/BD/alternate expression or whatever:dunno. I know that I was never mad that I couldn't use the BD T-1000 head that I had and it eventually made me spend more $ on another HT fig.:gah:

:exactly::goodpost: Now that is a great idea.

But there are also people like me that don't mind putting a BD HS on an un-BD body:dunno. I also agree with you that this did seem like quite a bare DX release to me.

There are, but, as annoying as HT can be, they do seem to grasp the importance of details to customers, and probably figure majority would not accept a damaged head without the neck and body damage. Occassionally they'll make concessions to make a figure versatile. For example, this DX10 should have a jacket full of bullet holes, but, they're also, despite lack of black t-shirt (and likely they'll add that to the mix before this ships like they did for the MMS117), marketing this figure as able to be the clean T-800 from the opening of the movie before any combat and leaving it up to the individual collector if they want damage to the coat or not.

It's as much about the business side of it all as fandom and accurracy.

Taking this collage for example.

MARCUS WRIGHT

Likely, Hot Toys probably figured with the character being new and the minimal screen time of his damaged look, it made the package sweeter to add a coat and second portrait to make one really good figure that would be popular sell well rather than 2 unique ones that might not do so well.

T-1000

While fans would love versatility and options for his appearance, I think again, HT looked at the character and opted that 2 separate figures might not do so well for them as 1 solid release so they basically gave us a DX worth of stuff in an MMS package.

SARAH CONNOR T-1000

I think the inclusion of the second head here was to boost sales of two figures at once. It begs the qustion, why make this Sarah if they feel it needs a really popular accessory for another figure added to it to sell it, but that's what it looks like, they gave fans who wanted the hair down look the option but added to the package to make sure she'd sell well, and it seems like she still didn't anyway.

T1 T-800

I do believe HT staff are still fans, as much as they seem more business-centric lately. How cool is it to have the early BD look from the movie? Very. However, they also knew there would be no way to really do anything with a production figure to make this BD look really different in a second figure from the clean original, so they just added an arm, head and some tools to the basic Tech Noir look figure. If the T1 T-800 did not change in facial appearance as much and in the ways he did, I doubt this figure would have had a second sculpt, but it works.

T2 T-800

So when the WTF of why no extra portrait with the T2 T-800s comes up, I think it's pretty easy to see, business decision. It would better suit them to release a semi/full BD T-800 package with fully accurrate costuming options than to add a BD head half assedly to this DX10 release or the MMS117 figure.

As cool as a full BD figure would look, collectors have come to expect lots of items in the box to validate the price. If you pack the Cyberdyne BD items along with the full steel mill BD gear, then that's a pretty good ammount of stuff for your money, take the Cyberdyne items away and it's a very light release.

While lack of 2nd portrait in this DX10 seems like this doesn't come with much, you still get a lot of accessories, enough to warrant saving anything related to BD scenes for yet another figure. Same reason why they gave a bloody eye head to MMS136 instead of one with the Endo eye exposed, adds to the accessory list for a BD figure from T1.

It's not such a big deal, except that, we have no clue if they'll ever actually make BD T-800s, if they do, it's all good how they've done things to date, but for now, it's frustrating because they're making their collectors hope to get the parts they need with each release because they don't know if they'll ever get it otherwise.

this is my number one christmas boutique item!

Re: Hot Toys - DX10 - Terminator 2 - DX T-800 Cyberdyne - Official Specs & Pics

Maybe the idea of extra heads is based on sales after all. If HT thinks they can continue sales of different variations of the same character they hold back, if they think a character is going to be a onetime shot they go all out to make sure it moves.

I'd be happy if they offered a custom kit, just pieces to convert a character from one scene in a movie to another. It wouldn't make them as much as a whole figure, but it improve sales of an old or current figure.

With a kit available for a particular figure sales would be higher because people would want one plain and one for the various kits.
