Re: eFX ANNOUNCES LEGEND DARTH MAUL HERO LIGHTSABER!!

Why all the talk of accuracy for this product, if you take the mold and alter it to give the fans what they want (emitter holes). Doing that completely nullifies everything they said before about it being 100% accurate. You can't have it both ways, either it's 100% accurate with undesirable warts and all, or it is just another idealized version, like this one is, it's just a more accurate idealized version.

In fact most of the prop replicas out there are just more accurate idealized versions ;)

If you go back and read my previous posts, you will see that the saber body is the only part that is cast and it is unmodified.
The metal emitter ends use the dimensions of a known original.

I'm not really trying to pick on any specific post, I am really taking exception with efx. Efx just can't say it is 100% accurate and then make alterations, which may appear on other props, but unless it appeared on that specific prop, and therefore present in that mold, they should not be making such claims.

Don't get me wrong, efx makes some beautiful product, I for one wish I had the X-Wing pilot helmet.

Re: eFX ANNOUNCES LEGEND DARTH MAUL HERO LIGHTSABER!!

No prob.
PS, no licensed replica will ever be 100%, but with the Legend line we definitely try to push the boundaries within the limitations of mass production as well as what makes practical sense.
There will always have to be some compromises made, but we do whatever we can to keep them to a minimum.

But keeping things in perspective, the Legend replicas have SIGNIFICANTLY less compromises than any of the licensed SW replicas that have ever been made available.

Re: eFX ANNOUNCES LEGEND DARTH MAUL HERO LIGHTSABER!!

Will there be a non-Legend version like with Vader's helm? I never got the MR Maul 1:1 and I'd like a less expensive option than the Legend line.

Re: eFX ANNOUNCES LEGEND DARTH MAUL HERO LIGHTSABER!!

I don't believe so.
But not all Legend pieces are going to cost the same.
Something to keep in mind is that prices will vary from product to product so you can't really use the cost of the Vader Legend as a basis for future pieces.

Re: eFX ANNOUNCES LEGEND DARTH MAUL HERO LIGHTSABER!!

Well, I don't mean that the saber will cost the same as Vader's helm, but what I mean is, the Legend version of a prop will always be higher than a non-Legend.

Vader Legend - $1000
Vader Limited - $800

Even if Maul's saber is $500, I would think that a Limited version would be around $300-$400, any savings helps.

Re: eFX ANNOUNCES LEGEND DARTH MAUL HERO LIGHTSABER!!

I see what you mean.
Not every Legend piece will have a Limited counterpart but some will.
I don't think the Maul saber will though.
Still way too early to determine pricing.
Pricing is determined by a lot of factors, but most significantly dependent on the cost of the overall manufacture (which can be surprisingly difficult to estimate).
Sometimes you have what you think is very complicated piece and it ends up costing less, other times you have what you think is a more simplistic piece and it ends up costing a lot more than you thought.
It's just how it goes sometimes.

That is good to know. There is also the question of having international distributors for the future Legend items, not to repeat the Legend Vader problem.

Yep. Remember guys, if eFX sticks to par, you won't actually get this until 2015.

Re: eFX ANNOUNCES LEGEND DARTH MAUL HERO LIGHTSABER!!

Question:

Since this is a resin saber, why wouldn't it be part of the "EFX Precision Cast Replica" line, rather than the more expensive Legend series?

Example:
What is the difference say between the Count Dooku precision cast replica, and a Legend Series version of the same saber if ever created? Both are "cast from an original saber", or at least the "original molds".....both are resin, and in theory are identical to the production made pieces they represent.

I ask because to my way of thinking the "reasoning" used to justify the premium charge that will surely accompany this piece, is the same criteria that was used for the Precision Cast Replica line of saber hilts at a fraction of the cost. A Darth Maul is not that complicated to make. I have seen, and held on many occasions John Azarians hilt purchased from Profiles In History, and its not a complicated piece at all.

The PCR sabers although very nice for their price point, are not at all at the same level of accuracy of what a legend version would be.

I'm almost certain that no PCR saber made to date was actually cast directly off a screen-used or production made piece.

There's a huge difference between referencing or scanning/outputting an original, and actually taking molds off of it.

If you were to compare the MR CE, the EFX Legend Maul, and a screen-used Maul saber, you would see that the MR CE is very different from the original in many ways while the EFX is nearly identical.

The MR CE caters to the idealized/representational style, while the EFX Legend caters to the film prop accurate style.

That is a very disappointing post. EFX, and its predecessor Master Replicas marketed those types of pieces on their "accuracy" due to the laser scanning techniques of the originals found in the Lucas Archives.

Now we find out that for those products the laser scanning really didn't capture the true accuracy of the piece, and EFX really didn't try to make the most accurate saber hilts due to products price point. Very disappointing.

I guess your statement really does sum up all the claims of both EFX, and Master Replicas when it comes to accuracy:

"no licensed replica will ever be 100%"

That is not a slam, your statement is very true. Not trying to be a fly in the ointment, but I really am tired of companies always flaking on the details of something claiming that they are limited by manufacture, yet they sure charge a premium price tag for something that is admittedly not even truly accurate from the start.

I think EFX would be better served by putting their money into developing a better system of addressing paying customers concerns/ inquiries rather than products that have to split hairs regarding their marketing claims before the product is even manufactured or sold.

I have on many occasions held a screen used Darth Maul saber owned by John Azarian, who purchased the piece through a Lucas Film sponsored charity auction. As Gino pointed out the difference are noticeable, yes. That being said I have yet to see an accurate replicas of this saber, and from the description given thus far, I still won't.

I respect what EFX is doing, but I think it’s nothing new.

Gino,

Do you think this level of negativity toward a new product would be anywhere near this bad if eFX customers were happy?

If you read a lot of the posts (both here and Rebelscum), there seems to be underlying aggression due to the poor customer service and delays.

The general consensus seems to be focused on getting the current products shipped before announcing something that most people are jaded by...

Does having their customers this vocally aggressive not bother eFX?

Even the worshippers are fed up.

Re: eFX ANNOUNCES LEGEND DARTH MAUL HERO LIGHTSABER!!

I just post on the forums to help answer questions and clarify things where I can.

Re: eFX ANNOUNCES LEGEND DARTH MAUL HERO LIGHTSABER!!

If the Legend saber is going to be resin, what quality is the paint going to have to ensure a product that lasts? Accurrate or idealised, the MR sabers are actual metal so there's no concern about flaking or wearing away, nor much room for worry about QC on the application.

Re: eFX ANNOUNCES LEGEND DARTH MAUL HERO LIGHTSABER!!

The paint will be fine with normal handling.
If you plan on going into battle with it, you might be in trouble. :)
