Wow, this thread is nuts. Glad I listened to my spider-sense tingling when I saw these threads for that site here and at OSW. Hope anyone out money gets it back, but I can totally see the appeal in the scam itself. The growth and money spent on this hobby in the last 2 years or so has become insane, with collectors willing to spend almost any amount to get Wolverine and Batman dolls etc. Not saying anyone deserved to be scammed, but I can certainly see the fertile ground a scammer would when undertaking this.

Also as for the theory of why a scientist would want to get involved, don't be that naive to think they wouldn't. If the numbers adding are true, that's a decent haul that anyone with low morals would be interested in. And scientists make a decent to moderate income, they're not millionaires by any means. Sure the scammer may be using an alias, or maybe did steal that identity, but it's also just as likely the guy is in involved too since at this point there seems to be no evidence he isn't.

Hopefully this experience has taught some people a very valuable lesson, and reinforced it to those of us who already knew it - C.Y.A. - Cover Your A$$ when it comes to sending money online.

Good luck everyone.

The cya part is Probably the main reason why so many people ordered from them. My contact certainly didn't tire to tell me how safe PayPal is and that in the worst case scenario I will get my money back. So in my opinion the main target of this scam is PayPal. I know one person who works for the asset protection of eBay/PayPal and they always get them...nice try ;)

My order just recently had a status update.
It left hong kong on the 24th and is en route to its destination.
As soon as I receive my scrap paper I'll update.

I also got the big sales pitch from them about Paypal when I inquired about ordering.

Hey guys, remember the good old days? like when you could smoke indoors or something?

What if these are the "good old days" when paypal reimbursed your loss???

Can you imagine if the size of this one individual scam made paypal change their policy...

Scams ruin everything :dunno

They won't
The guys that work in their asset protection are really good at what they're doing. One way or the other, PayPal won't be losing any money.

I NEED ADVICE ON WHAT TO DO!!!! okay so here is the situation with my paypal claim and back story, ordered pred bersrker from htos, recieved my package but had a missing part on the armor, told dave and he said he would give me a $32 refund so i could buy the missing part, the refund was made but i later changed my mind and asked to return and get the ful refund which he agreed to. I had to pay $60 return shipping in which he said i would be reimbursed.

In the middle of shipping process we unfolded that the store was a scam and i obviously never heard back from dave so i quickly put in my paypal claim and called up the post office to request them ship my package back since it was attempted delivery to dave but not picked up. I have now got the package back in my possession but paypal says i have to re ship it to a different address (the one that is linked to the invoice seller mario kdd) to get the claim as the first address i sent it to was a bogus one given by dave. on top of that the initial refund of $32 has been frozen by paypal for investigation.

ive already paid shipping and now im suppose to pay again, ive told paypal its all part of the scam and i shouldnt have to pay shipping again to get my refund. if i do as they say that means ive paid $270 in total in order to get a $150 refund, ill be losing $120 off the bat with no figure. surely paypal has other ways, they must figure out that mario kdd is part of all this. What should i do now??

That may only apply if the scammers are based in North America. If our dear "Dave" or whatever is his real name, is based in Hong Kong, China or Malaysia as may be possible, PayPal can kiss goodbye to the $$ they reimbursed to the buyers.

If you want a refund, you will have to ship it out again and take the loss. You might as well just keep the figure or sell the figure if all you are getting after spending 270 is 150.

I think most buyers will get their money back if they filed a claim within the specified paypal time frame. Paypal usually puts a hold on the funds in a seller's accounts when dealing with large amounts of money. Good luck to all.

Why isnt paypal refunding ppl??

Why are claims being closed in like 10 mins (at least accd to the links above)?

If this is how they respond then i will find some other payment mechanism.

I just had my 400$ refunded to me.
As people had already mentioned, call em up after the deadline is done and they will usually close down the case and refund you immediately.

my deadline is today. So I guess paypal will take action tomorrow

Paypal will never go out of pocket to settle a claim. They may close a claim because they can't recover the money from the "seller". But they'll usually tell you that.
