There's no need to bash the woman for dying. She's a human being and there are people who loved her.

Ok, now that being said, there's no need to glorify a drug addict, either. It's completely disgusting that NJ's governor declared the flags be put at half staff in her honor. That's an honor set aside for someone who dies during public service (military, law enforcement, firefighters ...), and residents of that state need to refuse that declaration and refuse to do it!

Such a shame the media can escalate a crack head and child molester to a status where millions of people who never met them mourn their deaths, but want to paint pictures of our troops as murders and rapists, and make law enforcement out to be racist extortionists.

let this tread die, already.

Wow, those people are really ____ed up..lookin real sharp in that ___ bandana. XD

She was a drug addict turned suicidal, not a rapist turned terrorist. ____ing people need to get over this drug crap. Everyone's done it, tried it at some point in their life. Some people just don't have the will power in their genes to stop when enough is enough.

People hooked on drugs can seem pathetic but they're not the worst people, save that for the rapists and murders. An addict is not even in the same league! They're sick people, not criminals. If it was your kid, you wouldn't be so judgmental.

those westboro shat heads are HIGH. religious HIGH.

how awkward would it be when they find themselves in the company of all those they've condemned to HELL....in HELL.

My sympathy stops when they turn to crime to fuel the habit.

Yeah, it's easy to be judgmental when you aren't in someone else's shoes. Addiction fundamentally affects the physiology of your brain. It isn't as easy as saying that someone should just will themselves not to do drugs or to drink alcohol anymore.

Of course, we don't know what this woman has gone through specifically and what choices she made that ultimately led to her sad decline, but the role of addiction in all that adds a tragic component to it. I'm not saying that addicts are free from blame (far from it), but it's overly simplistic to just say that these people are weak and pathetic.

It's really hard to find sympathy with super stars who have wealth and means, they literally have a whole world of possibilities in front of them and they choose to engage in base chemical addictions. They aren't in the gheto trying to escape the hard existence of poverty and despair. No tears for the rich and famous please.

But addiction isn't an issue where it is about resources. People are people, and have the same frailties no matter how much or little money they have. The poor have resources available to them, as well, that are subsidized by the government, non-profits, private donors, volunteers, etc. And problems are problems. The wealthy are really no happier than the less well off in my experience, so I don't think that's an explanation for anything. It's the right combination of finding the proper treatment for the proper illness and having the willpower and support system in place to get through it. Addiction is tough. I haven't seen as much as many here probably have, but I've seen it, and it is not simple or easy to fix.

Oh please.
The addictive properties of the substances she engaged in have been known for centuries yet hubris or boredom or whatever opened the door.
You'd have to have Downs syndrome as an excuse to take that first line.
It's all about responsibility for personal decisions.
It's the universal moral/spiritual of the universe: "You reap what you sow, later than you sow,and more than you sow."
No one rich or poor escapes that principle.

Well like another person here posted, I just hope you don't find yourself in a situation where a friend or loved one of yours gets stuck in a bad situation, or you might have to rethink your position out of necessity. Not so easy to think in simplistic platitudes when you realize these are real human beings we're talking about. People are inherently weak--all of us. And we make bad decisions from time to time. Good on you if you've never made a bad one in your lifetime. This isn't about Whitney Houston specifically. But I do know that substance abuse is a scourge and it's probably affected more people than you would like to know. Johnny Cash, Anthony Hopkins, Rush Limbaugh--all addicts at one point or another.

The vast majority of hardship in my life is of my own creation as well.
I'm not immune to selfish decisions.
But the same decision making process that got me in trouble can get me out as well.
Take responsibility, learn and move on. Hopefully wiser.
I try to avoid pity parties and try not to be a burden or concern for others.
Some pot holes in the road of life are hard to see but drug addiction usually has neon warning signs around it and are almost impossible not to see.

That's all I got on the subject.:peace

Totaly agree. I haven't done drugs yet. Heck I rarely take over the counter drugs as it is. I don't even like the idea of forced public shool shoot/antibiotic for the kids.

But if given the opportunity, I would love to try the natural cocaine leaf in South America. Its legal over there and the local sell/use it to treat altitude ailment or whatever. Its not concentrated and I highly doubt I'll be addicted. Not for regular use anyway.

As for Whitney, she'll fade away. We'll see other goes and the process continue.

I definitely do agree that people who fall into addiction have an obligation to try to get themselves out (for their friends and family as much as for themselves).

That's a bit of an exaggeration.
