Gipetto...were you shocked at the ending of the original movie or had you seen it before in snippets from other sources making fun or reference to it? When I watched the movie for the first time, I was 8 years old, and most of it went whoosh over my head but I fell in love with the apes. Plus to add to the fact that we were recent immigrants and English was not my first language.

Luckily I didn't have any spoilers come my way.

I know some may not approve, but the reason I wanted to watch the originals was to see how it differed with the recent Rise of the Planet of the Apes movie. I find it very interesting to see how they connect and how they differ. So i guess I wasn't too shocked at the ending of the original. I was a bit surprised for a second b/c the movie had convinced me otherwise.

The next two were great though and Like you, I definitely loved the apes more than man well the two that helped Taylor and Brent (Cornillius and Zira i believe??) and was really sad at the end of the third. Very interested to see how it all ends with "Conquest"

I won't say anything until you get through the rest of the ape films. Then you can let us know how you felt.

I think (hope) you'll find that POTA fans are a little more laid back about who's a "real fan", which movie is best, etc etc. than most sci-fi franchise fans. I'm really happy you liked the new movie (I liked it a lot too), and I never even considered it would get people to try the originals. Awesome!

If anyone gives you any guff about seeing the 2011 version first, they're being a jerk. :monkey1

Look guys! It's my long lost sister, Eileen Dietz! LOL!!

So sad! I tried to claim my package from Rainman today at the post office, and they said the package went back to Korea unclaimed. I was not home at the time of delivery, so I got one of those slips of paper to claim the package. Every time I was out and about, I forgot the paper at home. So I guess I only had a 10-day window to claim the package. It's gone. :(

I am definitely seeing that.

I'm so used to how "die-hard" star wars fans are and how talking about liking anything that isn't the original trilogy is frowned upon almost. Same thing with the original Transformers cartoon. Many hate the newer cartoons and especially the movies. so I guess I just assumed that that is how it typically is thought of with most older movies in that "older is better"

but it's very welcoming that it isn't that way in this thread :) thank you :1-1:

Just don't talk too kindly about Tim Burton's remake. No one here is very fond of that picture.

Saying I'm fond of the TIm Burton re-imagining would be an overstatement. However, being a make-up enthusist (thanks to the original saga) I LOVE the makeup in the movie... as well as the art direction of the film as a whole.

And I can't hate a film that finally slaps some latex on Charlton Heston. What a history making day that was... the day the makeup artists finally make a monkey out of ole Chuck. I really wish they filmed that session.

Plus, thanks to the interest generated by the Burton film, we finally got the Planet of the Apes Revisited which had languished at the publishers FOR YEARS before it finally got released.

I did not know that!

Hated the female makeup though...hideous. Plus Burton just pisses me off.

I have to agree with both Proto and Jess.

The art direction was great, like it is with all Burton films, it seems that is his main focus with the neglect of other elements of his films.

The female make-up as Jess said was hideous. Eye brows and Lipstick?

Really?

I GENERALLY love the makeup and art direction in that movie, but holy bejeezus you are so right about...err...what's-her-face. (I saw that movie for the first and last time in the theater, and don't remember any characters.) How Tim Roth, Chuck Heston, and Paul Giamatti could look so right, and the gals look like tarted-up cartoons is pretty unsubtle sexism.

Keep in mind that the 2 main female chimps were portrayed by Lisa Marie, who was Burton's outgoing squeeze, and Helena Bonham Carter, his current squeeze and mother of his children. Coincidence?I think not...PS

I have some Apes that I would be willing to sell! Sideshow (2) Gorillas, Ursus, Taylor, Brent, and Mutant.
(45.00 EACH) or all for $270.00! I have for sale six Planet of the Apes 12" figures! All unopened Mint in Boxes having purchased directly from Sideshow Collectibles back in 2004 and are no longer available! They include Ursus, two Gorilla Soldiers, Colonel George Taylor, Captain Brent, and The Mutant Leader. I am asking $270.00 for the set, but would sell individually at $45.00. Shipping is extra!

I still have these and others available that I planned putting on ebay!:ghost:devil:winkpumpk:mummy:frankHappy Halloween!

Please let me know if interested! I bought these figures from Sideshow Collectibles. Thanks!

Those are great prices, Kfog...and anyone buying them would be helping out a fellow ape. Good luck to you. I would snag the two gorillas from you but I unfortunately am still out of work and must try to be good.
