Clearly, he was offended by your post, so he offended in kind. And now you're offended, and you're returning the insult repeatedly in every post you bring it up in. What's the difference?

An eye for an eye, and the world is blind :lecture

Aphorisms aside, back to the scheduled ass clowning and drama :clap

I still dont get how hed get offended by seeing the custom next to HT version :dunno

Context is everything. Some people are tuned into aspects of a conversation that others are not. In this case, the state of custom dealings on the board came to the fore. Whether it was appropriate or an over-reaction is another discussion.

All I'm saying is that it's hard to poke out an eye with a word.

I get that, but I think the aphorism is still appropriate. I don't think people should be as eagerly cut throat abrasive as they can be, forums or real life. I've seen new forum members turned into sarcastic, cynical idiots by how sarcastic, cynical idiots have treated them.

I think the distinction could be made pretty easily. One can make a critical comment and remain civil about it (i.e., no blatant insults, name calling, or general offensiveness). Or, one can make a comment with the purpose of getting a reaction--pro and con--from others. I know that's how the internet works sometimes, but damn if it doesn't get tiresome after awhile.

Agreed :exactly:

Most of the time, people eventually see each others' points. Getting to that stage, however, is often a painful process.

Like Nam said, it's a dysfunctional family. It's like Thanksgiving, when Uncle George comes right out and tells Aunt Rita that she looks like a whore with all that makeup on, and to stop dressing like she's 23, for God's sake, because she's 52 and time hasn't been kind.

Granted, it's a bit rude, but everyone else was thinking it. This of course leads to about 3 hours of old laundry being brought up, Aunt Rita throws Uncle George's toupee into the garbage disposal, the kids sit around fascinated, Grandma has to lay down, Grandpa threatens to stab Uncle Marty because he yelled at Grandma, and Robert goes outside to wonder why the hell he invited all these people to his house.

After the three hours have passed, someone says something that makes one person laugh, and everyone's back to being a family again.

Until Christmas.

Awesome thats exactly how I feel here. Just read myself through the last 30 pages and felt fascinated like one of these little kids. :lol

I know I come across as one of the obnoxious family members more often than not, but I'm just very opinionated and was born without the ability to hide it. It doesn't endear me to anyone, I'm sure, but in the end hopefully I don't offend too many people.

Still not gonna go easy on customs, though. :nana:

Why are you sending this back already?

I don't think anyone is being abrasive for the sake of being abrasive, so I don't consider the aphorism appropriate. If new members need to play follow the leader, that's their own problem. It's not the responsibiltiy of anyone else because the 'leader' is not the cause of their behavior. They have free will and they should learn to use it. The same could be said of those who bandwagon on any other element (customizer fanboys?) and the truth is that the only posters not leading anyone by the nose are the ones who aren't selling something. You can tell which ones those are by the extent to which they're, um, abrasive.
