Re: Hot Toys Michael Keaton Batman (1989)

Ok, who's photoshopping the nose of the car to look that short in the overhead photo, c'mon, show yourself :tap

:lol I actually think that scale varies by paint manufacturer too. Lowes has an "eggshell" sheen paint and I have no idea where that falls on the scale I use. :huh

Regardless, the paint used on the 1989 Batmobile was considered a pearl black and looked absolutely matte (or flat depending on who you ask :D) black on film.

I think the 1:18 hot Wheels captured the look perfectly and HT's does the same.

Whats the difference between Matte Black & Pearl Black?:monkey1

If you could change just one thing on it, Blackthornone, what would it be?

For me, based just on the couple angles I've seen, I would lengthen it a bit. If I had to pick just one thing.

Well, the edges on a lot of areas of the car are much too sharp. If those were rounded off properly, that would really help the look to be more authentic without making it any bigger or costing any more money. That is the clear and obvious first fix. One thing that bothers me in particular is the shape of the windshield at the rear ends. It is much too angular, and needs to have more of a gradual curve to it.
In addition, the bullet shaped piece in Jet Engine air intake isn't pointy enough. I could go on...

After that, I would lengthen it and widen it. From the front, it really needs to be widened, except if you widen it properly, it will definitely throw off the length to width ratio, which will make it look wayy too short. Actually, the width is a bigger issue for me than the length, except that as I said, you cannot change the width without changing the length, although you could change the length without changing the width, for much improvement.
Lastly, I would really like it to be the color of the actual car used in the film, which is pearl silver and not black, which is important to me, because this is the only Batmobile that has been silver, which makes it the most unique and therefore in a way, makes it the most special. Without that color difference, it just doesn't stand that dramatically apart from every other Batmobile as much. The silver color makes it an extra significant Batmobile, in the long line of Batmobiles ever designed.

I didn't say they were just that some painters interchange the terms. I've heard automotive painters use the term for both.

Agree to disagree time? :duff

Your completely correct about the 1989 Batmobile being pearl black Coco. So lets agree on that! (..whisper. but the HT version is matte black!)

Matte black has a frosted look, while pearl black has little pieces of color shifting metallic in it. Pearlescent paint used to be made with fish scales, but now it's all synthetic, plated plastic wafers, if I'm not mistaken. The pearl has a more multi colored appearance, while the raised little specks of paint on a matte paint job can catch the light and look almost like a metallic, but not quite. Matte is frosted in appearance.

Yup, pearl, has a "mother of pearl" sheen which gives it a multi faceted reflection. Like the inside of a gun barrel. Thats why Furst decided on the colour. They wanted it to be "sexy and dangerous, brutal like a weapon".

Matte has a frosted, or bead blasted look to it, because it has a slightly raised texture. Satin is completely smooth, because of the flattening agent in it. Satin is as smooth as gloss, except it is much duller. Satin is still glossier than flat, however, but is not necessarily as glossy as semi-gloss.

The Batmobile was 19ft by 8ft so at 6 inches to a foot should be....114 inches by 48.Anybody taking a tape measure to SDCC?

That's a matter of opinion Nam, now can you stop trying to personally attack everyone who disagrees with you? Thanks, it makes you come across as if you have serious self confidence issues.
:1-1:

I don't recall any personal attacks. But if it prevents you from becoming any more of a drama queen, I'll stop. :lecture:lecture:lecture

Good man. There is no way that HT Batmobile is 2 feet wide. More like 12-14 inches is my guess. Length is probably 48-50 inches. Well, I guess the reality of why the HT Batmobile doesn't look right has become clear. A 5 ft 8 inch long Batmobile is out of the question for most people. I think the HT Batmobile should be 2 1/2 to 3 feet long. However, I think your math might be off. It seems to me that 3x6=18, so a 1/6 Batmobile should be 3 feet 2 inches long, and 16 inches wide. Your measurement is for a 1/2 scale Batmobile, not a 1/6.

Wikipedia says that the Batmobile is 260.7 inches. That is over 21 feet long, not 19 feet long as has been previously stated. That would make a 1/6 Batmobile 43.5 inches long, and not 38 inches long. Just shy of 3 feet 7 1/2 inches. 94.4 inches wide is the real one, so at 1/6th that is 1 foot 3 7/8ths inches.

I don't know. Once you see it with the canopy closed and in comparison with the 12" Hot Toys Jack Joker, it looks fine to me. It could be a little longer I guess, but this thing is still a beast.

Check it out at 2:00 along side Joker. It seems like the proportions are fine with him,
