Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

To be honest, I think it's gotten to a point where the "valid crits" think they're entitled to perfection. Frank truth, they're not. Arnie is a human being, and a talented one at that. He isn't God, he can't create perfection just because some nerdy fanboy who thinks $209 should buy him the Mini-Me to Christopher Reeve's Dr.Evil. Frankly though, I'm just sick and tired of all the _____ing, it seems like most of you, in your quest for perfection, have forgotten just why we collect. We collect because these are the things that we enjoy, and yet, in an ironic turn of events, most of you have taken the enjoyment out of collecting.

Perfectly said.

Sucks to be them mate, the rest of us will get full enjoyment out of this figure :hi5:

So what's the issue with accepting that this is a welcome, nice, but far from perfect sculpt?

No issue, I was making my comment more in regards to whether Arnie Kim would, as hypothetically posed in a previous post, be getting a bit over all the criticism. When it was then suggested by AmusedJester that Kim was an artist and would welcome critique of his work, I simply noted that he'd get a lot more bs than he does valid criticism.

I agree with you, there is nothing wrong with valid critique - it's only when it's married with unrealistic expectations, or snide remarks bout Kim's ability, or when the same comments are posted over and over that it all starts to get a bit boring.

I don't need manips to persuade me to buy this figure, but I do appreciate this side-by-side showing what is essentially a photo of Reeve at the same angle with the same expression.

Re: Hot Toys - MMS152 - Superman: 1/6th scale Superman Collectible Figure

As interesting as it is to see a good PS'd image that describes nicely what the author thinks are the shortcomings of the sculpt - as opposed to mindless numbnuts who post 'the scupt is off' ad infinitum - it's really pointless to take a portrait that is so close to perfection as this, and feel bummed because all of a sudden you see a digitally-altered image that looks spot-on from one particular angle.

IMO if the PS'd images would be more useful if they assessed the sculpt from every angle. A single 2D image is not enough to dint my satisfaction with this sculpt.

I'll co-sign to that. People simply take that one straight portrait and
run with it, when it could greatly differ with the slightest lighting and/or angle. I'm perfectly content with what we already have and up until that manip was shown, so were many other people.

Hey guys, I've made a few adjustments to the original (shown on the left) and I think you'll agree that the PS'd manip (on the right) is a lot closer to what that hack Arnie Kim has come up with. The changes are subtle, but they make all the difference IMO:

QFT. :horrorBy far one of the truest and sound statements made regarding
this board and the hobby itself. Its impossible to please everyone, yet
it seems as though some make it their particular job to criticize
everything and anything.

Wow. That animation really shows that the changes are subtle. A lot more subtle than I thought, though still significant.

I'm buying it either way frankly. But, I'd love to see the manip get done. So, does the guy have to re-sculpt the whole thing if he did try? I take it you can't really tweak sculpts.
