Getting ready to get into shooting...whats a great starter pistol with some legs?

Glock 19

Proven, dependable, easy to field strip for cleaning, and parts are available in abundance. Also sized right for concealed carry, if you so chose (unless you live in a communist state...) ;)

It's what I always recommend for a first, second, third, etc., handgun purchase.

Anybody have an online gun retailer with good prices that you've used? There was a good sale on HK USP Compact .45s this week on CDNN ($769) -- but I found out CDNN is located in Texas (which is where I am), and sales tax adds another $70 or so to the price (which pretty much negates the value of the sale).

Any ideas?

hmm. looks like their HK USP .45 Compact is $852. pretty much the same price i paid for mine a couple of years ago.

Yeah. Bud's has it for $852 with free shipping. CDNN has it for $769. Add sales tax and it jumps to $833, +$17.99 shipping and its $851. Transfer fee would be the same, so its pretty much break-even between CDNN and Buds (though CDNN is a limited-time sale).

I'd jump on an HK45 for that price, but may wait on a gun show in Pasadena this Sunday to see what the prices look like there for the USPc. Maybe Bud's will put them on sale.

CDNN and Bud's are good to go. Sign up for CDNN's newsletter, if you haven't already. Just received the newsletter earlier today, by the way. I've purchased most of my firearms from a local gun shop but have done business with both CDNN and Bud's and it's been great.

Another option to look into is gunbroker.com. It's the ebay for firearms. So you'll see some ridiculous pricing as well as some amazing deals. A couple of years ago I picked up a brand new Arsenal SLR-107FR for an amazing price.

Took the new 40 sw out to sight the laser and it was only after 6 shots I get a call from my boss saying "hey can you come in just to help us unload a truck?" It's not like this is my last day off for 9 days.
Anyways this was the progress I made so far. The little circle in the middle was my target.

Thnaks man! This will be my purchase next month.I found a company that makes a 20 round clip for it. I'm also adding a AK style stock. Haven't decided on the sight yet.

Uinta Industries u308 magazines? i personally like the dragunov stocks. unfortunately, mine's in sporter configuration. no evil pistol grip. well, at least i can drop the mag without a bullet button. :)

Yea I'll go with a dragonov stock and a new grip if I can find one at a good price. I really plan on customizing it top to bottom.

Bought a Kimber Custom II 1911 .45acp at a gun show yesterday. Haven't had the opportunity to shoot it yet, but I've heard good things.

Actually went looking at HK USP Compacts, but they didn't have many HKs at the show, and the price on the Kimber was good. I'd like to get night sights and a Crimson Trace grip installed.

Why is this topic so dead all the time? Come on fellas has anyone been going to the range lately or made any upgrades or anything?

Slung about 500 rounds in the desert yesterday; guess I need to do an update of my collection.

I had a "blast" taking a 1943 Mosin Nagant out to about 700 yards. :hi5:

Recent Urban Patrol Rifle course. Basically shooting from cover, kneeling, prone, rolled prone, elevated stress/heartrate, moving and shooting, braced, off-hand, etc.

This was actually taken with an Iphone.

Our "patrol car" to use as cover. Use the engine block. Shoot around or under, not over. LAPD has ballistic doors, so that's ok, too.

And on a related note... my lens hood painted to match my rifle.
