Hopefully the response over there is a bit more enthusiastic than it is here. Either the actual percentage of LOTR collectors on the Freaks board is closer to 2% than it is 10%, or SS is right......there just isn't much interest in the Hobbits. :dunno

I'm not sure that the number of people stating that they've sent a request is a good marker of response. As of my post, this thread has 41 posts, compared to 571 views. I'm sure that there are plenty of people who have seen this thread and have sent in a request. They haven't said anything about it because they just aren't the type who post. :dunno

Unfortunately that is the only reference point we have. As far as I'm concerned the more people who email SS the better, but if they don't post that info here, it does nothing to give us an indication as to the true numbers.

I just posted this in the 'Ask Sideshow' Q&A thread, but I figured it should be here as well :

OK, I have heard back from SS and they are quite pleased with the response so far. There was an issue with some LOTR fans [myself included ] sending multiple emails as SS does not want this happening, but other than that they are pleased with the response so far. That does not mean we should stop sending in those emails however. :nono For those who have yet to send an email....please do so. And getting your friends and family involved isn't going to hurt either. Just have them forward their requests using their own email acct's. :wink1:

Here's a little form letter I composed to send off to friends and family to help in our crusade. It went to about 30 people and that was without even trying hard. I titled it "A Little Help Please".

Hi,

I have a favor to ask. I'd appreciate a little help with encouraging a company to produce a few things I'd like to have in my current collection of movie/character related statuary. (No grief about where I'm going to put them please!) A bunch of other collectors and I are trying to get Sideshow Collectibles (the company that makes them: https://www.sideshowtoy.com/?category=0) to manufacture all of the main characters in the movie trilogy "Lord of the Rings" in their Premium Format line (1/4 scale). The four Hobbits, for those of you who are familiar with the story, have been less popular subjects based on the company's judgment of consumer response. I think they are misjudging the market, but they have encouraged us as a group to e-mail them to show that there really is a significant demand. The bunch of us are trying to recruit as many people as possible to join in the e-mail campaign. I'm putting a form letter here for you to copy and send off to Sideshow. This shouldn't take more than a minute or two and I'd be most grateful to have you help support my current addiction.

BTW, don't worry. This won't obligate you in any way or put you on any kind of mailing list.

Their e-mail address is: [email protected]

In the subject line put "Product Suggestion – Completion of the Fellowship from the "Lord of the Rings" in Premium Format".

Thanks for the effort!

George

Dear Sideshow Design Team,

I think most "Lord of the Rings" Premium Format collectors have been very, very pleased with the steadily increasing quality of the line as new pieces have been released. With each new statue the likeness to the actor that portrayed the subject in the movie has been considerably improved. The resemblance to Sir Ian McKellen portrayed in the most recent issue as Gandalf the Grey is uncanny. Given the hint that PF representations of Sean Bean as Boromir and John Rhys-Davies as Gimli are on the drawing boards is most encouraging and will no doubt bolster purchases of other characters you plan to release in the Premium Format line. However, I think support will be significantly compromised if the remaining members of the Fellowship, specifically Sam, Pippin and Merry are left out of the mix. I'm sure, based on numerous comments from collectors, you realize that there has been significant disappointment that so many lines have been dropped before a complete Fellowship has been produced. Please do not let this happen to your signature line. We are pleased that your new maquette series has plans to cover many characters, some never before produced, but they cannot replace examples of the most important characters in the larger, more easily detailed, format. I have no doubt that collectors, for whom the Premium Format represents the ultimate in high-end collectible statuary, will gladly add all members of the Fellowship to their displays. Given the extremely high quality of the ever improving line I feel confident in saying that you will have very little trouble in achieving the necessary sales goals to produce these final three characters and thereby make a significant number of your patrons extremely happy.

Sincerely,

Sincerely,

Outstanding George! :clap I've contacted about 15 or so people [friends/family] myself, but I look like a rookie compared to you. :bow

Hey guys, I sent my request tonite for the Hobbit PF's & received a e-mail confirming Sideshow got it. Hope it helps, I will try and have some of my family & friends to do the same. Keep up the good work everyone.

I think assuring them that they won't be put on the hook or stuck on a mailing list is helpful. Just going through your Contact list helps bring people to mind, plus if you haven't communicated in a while it's a good opportunity to reconnect.

I've already received confirmation from about a third of my cadre in just a couple hours, which shows to go you how simple it is. Good old copy and paste does it every time.

Great job George :clap, I have used you letter to contact friends and family to send on too.

Hope I get as good a response as you did. :yess:

I'm going to post it over at the S&F site (if that is okay).

Thanks for the letter mate.

Bill

Edit:

OH!, I see you have done that yourself.

You've been added LV! And yes, please do contact friends and family....in the end it will make a big difference. :lecture

Excellent news George! And yes, the whole process is rather simple, esp. for those limited by time. I've also added your 2nd form letter to the mix, which gives people 10 to choose from :google....now if only we could convince some of the regulars around here [who have been strangely silent so far :monkey3] to join our cause I think we'd be well on our way to getting the Hobbits, both in PF and maquette.

Several friends and family of mine have sent requests at this stage.:yess:

Thanks George, your letter was a huge help in achieving a good response.:clap

That's great Bill. I just heard back this morning from two more friends who put in their requests using form letters 4 and 7. :yess:

Apparently I may have a solid 20 requests from the link I sent to my kids face book. I have asked them to contact thier friends again to get them to pass it on :lecture

I know you guys are going to hate me but I guess it's important to post the other viewpoint. I personally really don't care if they complete the fellowship in the PF format. As a matter of fact, I would prefer they spend their PF development time on other characters like a Prologue Elven Warrior, Ithilien Ranger, Mordor Orc, Armored Uruk-hai, Rohirim Soldier, Galadhrim Elven Warrior, Numenorian Warrior, Gondorian Soldier, Boromir, normal Ringwraith, Bilbo, etc. :peace That being said, if they're gonna do a Sam, I want Bill included. :lecture :)

Frank, no doubt we all have our own preferences but the fact remains, not voting for a complete Fellowship in PF will do nothing to guarantee you ever get any of the PF's you want. Personally speaking, there's alot of PF's I'd like to see SS produce before the remaining Hobbits, but I've also watched three LOTR lines flatline in the past fews years and I think it's time we as LOTR fans/collectors rally around each other, as opposed to going our own way. Who knows, the day may come when you need the help of other collectors in order to get SS to consider some of the PF characters you've listed above, just as 'maquette only' collectors may need the assistance of PF collectors 2-3 years down the road when there's not a Hobbit maquette in sight.....and if that day ever comes, good luck to any of those who sat by and did nothing to help out their fellow LOTR collectors when they had the opportunity to do so. And if we, as LOTR collectors, can't be bothered to prove SS wrong concerning Hobbits, I think it safe to say you can kiss goodbye any hope of Sam, Bill, or Bilbo. :lecture

:peace Nah, I don't hate you :peace

I hope you get the pieces you want and hope I can support you in your quest :1-1:

I'm certainly glad to help. BTW, I have positive responses from 22 of the people I contacted already. It helps when there's not too much to do.
