Re: 1/6 Superman line from Mattel?

It'll be interesting to see how your other customs turn out. So far none of those I've seen based on the Mattel has bettered or even come close to matching it.

bettered or even come close to matching what? the mattel figure?
That head does not look good and the body is way too muscular. To be honest it bothered me just to look at it on my shelf thats why I changed it,i mean it's mattel not Hot Toys, you get what you pay for,I think my figure looks much better then what it was, sometimes figures dont look all that well in pics unless your using a high resolution camera,I think my figure looks great in person,It's a Les Walker head sculpt, many many people bought it,and they did so because of the likeness. My pics dont do it justice. Here are some better pics of my head sculp, you cant possibly say the mattel head looks even close to as good, thats my opinion at least,to each his own, amusedjester's figures looks great on the first 2 bodies he tried it on,not so much the evo body,no offence to him but if he had a better head sculpt, let say fenix's head on that figure,it would be perfect and blow away the mattel figure.

Re: 1/6 Superman line from Mattel?

Les Walker's HS is defintely a great Reeve sculpt, but I think what tomk is trying to say maybe is that this:

looks better than this:
and this is why,
and I mean no offense as I know they are the same sculpt, but what makes Les Walker's personal piece look so great is the head/neck/shoulder/collar bone area is one piece where as since your head only has the neck and you can see where the neck connects with the neck plug and the separate joint between the neck plug and the rest of the body and the two different skin tones all make it just look a tad unsightly IMO. it really makes the overall figure look slightly out of proportion as well b/c the neck looks a bit long. if your head was just the Head without the neck then placed on a similar body to the modded HT body amusedjester put his on where the neck/collar bone/shoulder area where one, then I think that would do wonders for you custom. BUT if you're happy with it, who cares right? it's your figure and you're the one looking at it every day. again, I mean no offense, but just giving my 2cents in this conversation

Re: 1/6 Superman line from Mattel?

gipetto i agree with everything you said,i also said that the right head on amusedjester's figure would blow the mattel version away, and i still think mine is an improvement to the mattel, but to say the figures shown dont come close to the mattel figure is just crazy, that mattel head looks like something mattel would do in a barbie Ken as superman,I see barbie Ken when i look at it,perhaps a better pant job will help, that figure i made is just to hold me over until HT puts theres out,I had the head sitting around for a while and there came my opportunity to make use of it,since my sculpt has a neck I cant use it on a body like amusedjester did so that was my only option,I was gona have it reworked to make it neckless to put on a better body but i didnt want to chance ruining the paint job and also didnt want to invest too much money on the project with HT's sup's comming soon but when I get my fenix neckless head and put it on the right body or even a TT body and match the paint, watch out!!My head was painted by Les so it's hard to get an exact match for a body.I ordered 3 mattel sup's just for the suit,Im actually gona have the mattel head repainted just to see how much it improves it.But seriously tho that mattel body is way too muscular for Reeve,it's more suitable for a comic version sup's.I love the suit but not crazy for the head and body, there is a reason why it's $60 yet HT's will probably be around $175,like i said, you get what you pay for,it's definitely good for a temp untill the HT version comes out but also cant hurt to try and improve it in any way as well,it's all in good fun,I certainly dont mind any constructive criticism on my stuff in fact Im all for it,makes us try to improve our work.

I agree buddy! and like I said, I hope you didn't take any offense to what I said, I was just trying to i guess explain what seemed to be like what tomk was saying when he said none of the modds look as good.

I too don't mind constructive criticism though I know it may seem like I do since when I'm done with a sculpt I rarely change it or rather, don't listen to comments when ppl tell me to change things :lol. not meaning as I think it looks perfect, but simply for the reason as if I'm happy with it, there's not need to change it IMO. If I were trying to sell them then I see a reason to constantly rework a sculpt and all that jazz but they're just for me so why change it?

Re: 1/6 Superman line from Mattel?

hey thanks for your interest and reply ,the problem is ,im in the uk and if i buy dieect from matty ,i get stand a good chance of getting stuck with customs charges ,witch amount to almost as much as the figure, and as i only really want the bare bones figure loose ,and from what i see on the net ,some people are dissapointed with this figure ,i thought maybee we could help each other out :) cheers chris

I had to pay seventeen pounds something customs charges and that was with UPS shipping. I guess it depends how much you want it. For me it was a simple decision. As a life long fan (more decades than I like seeing written down :) ) I wanted this figure as quickly as possible.

And I haven't seen too many folk who actually have the figure who are unhappy with it. But good luck anyway.

I see what you guys mean!

I hate those custom charges! UPS always comes with them! That'swhy I selected the USPS method on Matty. It takes longer but there are better chances to escape custom charges (I usually get charged only once out of ten times with USPS).

... although with the Xmas period, I'm more likely to get busted as they open more containers! I'll let you guys know how it eventually turned out! :D

Re: 1/6 Superman line from Mattel?

I must say I don't like the bulked up thighs...

if you look a the bottom photo the thighs are not bulky,he had the TT advanced thigh pieces on in the top photo and later removed them in the last photo without the head,is you look at this photo of Reeve his thighs were a bit thick, here the link to that tread .

Yes I've seen the top one many times before. As far as I remember it's built on the old Mego muscular Superman body which obviously has limited articulation but in spite of that is a beautiful figure. That's not one of the photos you originally posted though so I'm not sure why it's of any relevance. I'll reserve absolute judgement on the Mattel head sculpt until I see it painted with the same care and attention as has been lavished on the much more expensive customs but meantime it looks pretty good to me.

I was trying to be polite but let's put it this way. I prefer my Mattel Superman straight out of the box to anything you've done yourself, and after having seen your results I've decided I'm not going to bother tinkering with different bodies. Sorry, you put things on a board and not everybody will agree with you.
