What does it look like Greg?

Sallah's torch reeds:

I have to shape it but you get the idea from the bundle shot. I think the scale will work though I have no ref to place it against.

Looks like it will work great. I saw those at the store but I didn't pick them up that trip. I will have to next time.

OK. Amongst all else I have going on, and amidst the biggest cleanup and reorganization I have done in years, I took a few minutes here and there to have FUN again, and this guy is the result. Thanks to all here. Wor-Gar was right on every turn I might add. Every suggestion I took. No time to think of anything else anyway, so why not. They all worked! I didn't even have to think. :hi5:

Took me about an hour to glue, not sew the German sniper shirt to the skirt. For the skirt I just trimmed a piece of old T-shirt cloth (Wor-Gar suggestion) and that worked. So instead of dying or using tea, I didn't have much time, so I took some bottles of paint to the bathroom and just painted the cloth after wetting it. Used three colors, (Testors acrylics all) Sand as a base color, then while still wet, Dark Earth, which is a greenish tan, almost a khaki color, then some Burnt Umber along the edges to dirty it some. Worked it in with my fingers and let it dry vertically in front of a fan. Lets the dark pigments settle to the sleeve ends and to the seam at the bottom (which was cut along a wide, dried thread of fabric tac glue so it wouldn't fray or roll up)

Dyed the waist wrap the same way but with a burnt sienna wash (another Wor-Gar suggestion. Said one of you guys did this, and it looked good, so I did that)

Torch is toothpics glued together and wrapped with thin ribbon which I painted. Literally lit the top so it charred properly, then hit the tips with flourescent orange paint. I may add a flame later if I find one that looks ok. Wish I had a spare part of Ghost Rider's head.

Shovel is a cheap Hasbro one repainted, mounted to a painted, sanded dowel.

Used a couple of loose strips of the T-shirt cloth for the loose bits of the turban, and done. Headpaint was started the night I got the head in, and finished today with the eyes.

Here is mine. He still needs some tweaks, more belly roll, work on the midriff wrap, maybe touchups to the headpaint, but all in all, he works. Painted the hands and body also. the Body is a Napoleon from that company. (Elite?) Hands are Buck hands repainted. The rope is, at present, a wick. I will probably go to a larger width twine with some knots in it or something.

Was FUN! First real fun time I have had on a custom figure in ages. Thanks guys. Helps me a lot in other work stuff, so thanks for that also. And just glad to have a Sallah.
Hope my recipe info helps any one. Any questions just ask. He's pretty darned easy. Cut and dried. Literally!

Better pics later. And I may tweak him some as I can, if you guys find better things to futz on your's also. Nice to know each of us gets a cool figure based on what the others are doing. Really had fun with this.
Thanks again.
And thanks Wor-Gar. You know your Raiders guys! :lecture

Oh, and BIGGA-BADDA thanks to Russ for the head in the first place! :rock

Awesome work, Les!!!! What you were describing to me over the phone the other day couldn't begin to give me the vision of how great your Sallah looks!

Here's a picture of the early stages of Ben's Sallah.

Sallah-1.jpg

The robe and waist wrap are made from scratch. The head is on a BBI body for now, with Sideshow Pro hands. The boots are from, I think, an Ultimate Soldier Steve McQueen from The Great Escape.

AWESOME, LES!

Sallah -- complete! That's the BEST digger in Cairo!

Looks terrific! Perfect! And the great news is...we all have the same parts so this is like a sneak peek at what we will all have at the end of this road.

Thanks for the nods, Les! Appreciate it! Lots of guys here have contributed -- even got me to change to the shirt-skirt too. It does look so much better.

And yes, BIG thanks to Russ! :clap who got this whole ball rolling with his amazing sculpt!

Now... I gotta get mine done. :D

Hey, Mr. Fusion's onboard! Ben's Sallah's looking GREAT too! Welcome to the dig!

Fantastic work Les. No disrespect to the other very talented artists on this board, but no one can put life into a headsculpt like you. You're style is totally unique, and untouchable imo. Can we get a pic of Indy and Sallah together?

Thanks Obsolete. I appreciate that more than you can know. Honored.

Anyway, Indy and Sallah? I'll see what I can do. Indy is suffering from...an affliction. He is shedding his paint. Slowly. He shines. Some kind of bad reaction to the paint, on the part of the plastic Sideshow used on that one. One of my favorite paints ever, wasting away slowly.
I'll post a pic soon, but just know, Indy isn't feverish, he's molting.
Got to solve that soon.

But again, thanks. (Love your avatar too! Hartnell rocks!!!)

Thanks man! I think Ben has wanted to make this figure as long as he's been working on Indy, circa 1996. Marion is the only figure he's wanted to make more.

I feel your pain, Les. You've been working on this figure forever.

Marion's NEXT!

Like Sallah, the Ravenwood Bar Marion would be fairly easy -- except maybe the green striped shirt but that might be sorted out well enough.

The sculpt? Well... there may be a possibility. But only for the hair-up bar Marion -- which I think is the simplest to bash anyway and would look best with sculpted hair.

Anyway, SALLAH... he goes first.

Some really fine works going on here , its great to see a bunch of Guys working towards a common goal - don't see much of that on here . Les that paint up is stunning!

As Greg mentioned you've given everyone a glimpse at how their figures will look when completed , which will give them even more enthusiasm to put into him. They look so cool I'm half tempted to have a go myself. Well done everybody ! :clap

I understand. I have been after a buddy to work me up a resin version of the basic Indy head (my favorite still for my Raiders look Indy as I prefer the expression for it's serious face which he had mostly in Raiders, and it's one of Trevor's best sculpts to me) for years now.
My own Indy, which I have been working on for nearly 13 years or longer, still is unfinished due to this one single anomoly. If I can get it resolved, I hope to help others with the same problem (I have a few I am trying to paint, and can't get past this problem yet). If anyone else is having it, and have solved it, they are pretty mum about it, or their resolutions. But this is a problem for it's own thread and discussion, so let's not derail this one, but I am with you too. We'll solve it! It can be solved. :rock

And thanks about my Sallah. Just hope you all can find a way to your's now. They are simple! Thank goodness!

Wow! There are some terrific looking Sallah's coming together on this thread! Awesome work guys!

Just got my head from Vartal and it looks Fantastic! :clap

Gotta get somebody to paint that bad boy up!

In the meantime, The Missus and I did a quick mock-up of the vest and it looks like she'll be able to sew me a nice one this weekend! (And, of course, by "we" I mean "her." When it comes to sewing, I'm capable of little more than quietly observing and trying not to knock anything over!)

Body. Check. Boots. Check. Shovel. Check. Sniper robe. Check. Material for robe extension and sash. Check.

I think I might be digging in the right place! :gun

Looks great Les! Awesome to finally see what that sculpt looks like painted, can't wait to get mine painted.

This is Magnoli Clothier's Sallah tie:

extra-image-584.jpg

I could probably paint up something less accurate but could be good enough for 1/6th. At least for me. I will have to ponder this.
