...I was wondering if someone here could explain the pricing on some series box sets. I've been wanting to watch Full Metal Panic, but every set they have come out with is way too expensive. Why is this so much more than other shows that have the same number of episodes?

Also, why do some 13 episode box sets cost just as much as 26 episode box sets? At first I thought is was popularity, but there are plenty of popular anime titles that are affordable...

It really depends on several factors. A lot of the more popular anime series have been released as singles, boxed sets, and finally as "lower priced, no frills" sets for the holdouts. It may be that Full Metal Panic just hasn't reached the "no frills" set stage yet, and is still selling well enough so that it isn't being discounted.

As for to the cost of anime... that's a huge discussion that will get the fans up against the companies. Fans say that if it was cheaper, more would buy and the companies would make more profit. Companies say that it costs a lot to buy the licenses, do the dubbing, etc., and they don't sell enough copies, so the price has to be high just to make a profit. Rather, rinse, repeat! :gah:

Thanks for the info. Maybe I can find it for cheap on ebay.

if you're tight on cash, then you could always just stream it from crunchyroll or do it the ol' fashion way...pirating lol.

Even so the quality is usually not the same.

very true, but your bank account stays a bit fuller. you could try to download some of the newer series animes from the fansubbers directly. that's what i do and some even have it in HD.

I do that with Naruto and a few other series but the older series dont have this option. Only way to get them in some kind of decent quality is on dvd.

I can't believe I've never posted in this thread. If you feel like being cheap, using mIRC client and getting older releases off of server from subbing groups is your best bet (assuming torrents don't work/aren't seeded).

I've been updating some of my collection from dvd to bluray but does anyone else notice much of a difference? At my current residence, I don't have any to compare. It's my feeling that the most marked improvement is on movies and less of an improvement on tv series.

Personally, I think FMA is one of the top anime series I've seen! It has story, action, good characters, personality, and emotions. I wouldn't skip it.

^^^This for sure. FMA (the first release or the current "manga true" release) should not be missed. Too good of a series.
