Thought somebody should standup in here and voice some sort of concern & protest. Looks like I'm in the minority, & that's alright. Maybe at worst it can prevent further false avertising and a 50% edition size increase 3 weeks AFTER a product has already sold-out.

When something smells rotten, somebody should be there to call them on it. If not, what do they get away with next? You want me on that wall. You need me on that wall....

I hope everyone who wants this piece gets one. It's just a stupid robe, ppl. I'm keeping my order, canceling last minute, then will be able to find it cheaper later from a dealer. No big whoop....moving on...

I give a damn neither about the edition size, the explanation, nor the protest. It's just not important.

Frankly, I prefer that the edition size be big so that the aftermarket value is lower. That way, if I were to break a statue by accident I can get a replacement for a decent price. I've never understood why people seem to enjoy a statue more because it is more limited. In my opinion, you should enjoy it for its inherent qualities, not its edition size.

that's an interesting perspective. and one i can get behind, as a collector who got into the hobby relatively "late". i'm STILL hunting for a 1:1 wolf predator bio. either the prices are ridiculously out of my range, or they simply can't be found on ebay or elsewhere!

This is another example of Sideshow increasing the edition size of a sold out product that proved to more popular than they anticipated. I'm sorry, but I find it very hard to believe that the edition size "should have been posted as TBD (but was not)" and was just wrong. If that is true, why has it taken 20 days, 3 weeks, to figure that out and make a correction? No one noticed?

I love Sideshow as a company but the one thing they do I always find exception to, is raising an edition size of a sold out product! You just don't do it! After realizing their "mistake", they should have just left it the way it was.

i do understand that announcing an edition size then raising it later (when sales of the item goes thru the roof) can be upsetting for some. it simply reeks of dishonesty towards your customers.

but if the item is something u genuinely like, then it's not worth it to get so upset about. at the end of the day, u still get to take home a work of art that u can appreciate every day.

but if you're (and i mean "you" as in people in general) a scalper/flipper and are angry that your profit margin will be affected, then who cares whether you're upset? you're scum anyway.

I think that's where the flipper mentality kicks in. I don't agree with that way of thinking but there are some guys/gals who collect for value or potential value of what something may be worth in the future. Whew! Run-on!

It's not completely irrelevant. Look at the Luke and Yoda PF exclusive for example. Collectors who bought that from Sideshow got screwed since many sold on ebay for less than $150. Not that this will do the same, but ES is relevant to people who have limited budgets.

Since I'm someone who collects these things because I personally like them and want them in my collection, I could care less how much they make or not.
If it was up to me, I would say give everybody a cape and just have one definitive version of the figure and let everyone enjoy it.
I think people who buy this stuff hoping 50 years from now, it's gonna be worth $20,000 on Antiques Roadshow and thats why they are collecting, need to check their head

The state of the economy right now has to be taken into consideration as well. There isn't much out there holding value. If this was a healthy economy and not a post-affordable housing economy, these editions sizes could well be too low. If we ever get out of this mess, the pieces that have depreciated may regain their former glory.

But that isn't the real issue, as has been said. The issue is the egregious disrespect that Sideshow has shown by lying to our faces like a bunch of dumb children, right?

1) You're all using your skepticism and cynicism to decide what they did. None of you know for sure, but in your hearts, you know it's the mission in life of greedy corporations to screw you. Therefore, Sideshow is lying.

2) They don't actually owe anyone an explanation. It's their product. If you want it, buy it. Companies need to stop kissing their customers' asses. They've come to expect it and it has made them rude. Some have become rude to the point of believing they are entitled. Some have even had the lack of soul to back their sense of entitlement with force of law. I say if Sideshow felt the need to defend themselves from backlash from such customers and purposely obscured the truth, so be it. It's their prerogative, and further, I'd be sick of you all too.

Well I have an EX on PO and I am happy with that because I like the piece and want it in my collection, numbers dont really bother me but it is nice to sometimes know that a piece you have could be a rareity in the world (with a low edition number) which does add a little something to that item and I dont mean financially.

I thought 400 was a good number and I can understand a company wanting to increase the number a little to say maybe 425 or even 450 but I mean to increase it by 50+% to 650 is pretty bad especially after its been advertised as 400 for three weeks prior!! This is a bit like selling out on an item at what ever amount it may be and then seeing that it is still very much in demand and then decideing to reproduce that item by another 250 pieces!

I am happy that there are going to be other collectors out there who are now going to be able to get the piece that they want.

I just wonder how long it is going to be before this kind of thing is done again on another item in the future

Very much agree Lonnie, this isn't a "flipper" issue; while that may be a part of the debate, it is at the core a matter of something being collectible. If there are more of a certain item the desirability is less, and of course it is less collectible. Collectibles do not mean something that someone collects, but items that are somewhat rare, exclusive (in some cases) and sought after. If they were available for everyone, they would just be common.

I am pretty disappointed at the edition size myself, even though I am sure that is how my waitlist converted. Personally when I choose a high dollar collectible it is because A) I liked it and wanted to display it proudly. and B) I intend to pass them on to my children as a sort of inheritance and their inheritance is considerably less if the demand has been reduced or eliminated by the commonality of a high edition size. For me they are more than just something to enjoy, they are an investment.

I am not a big deboxer so if I see a figure that I really just can not live without I buy it and (/me hangs head) display it in the box. Some figures absolutely must be removed from the box which often times reduce their resale value as much as or more than a high edition number so when I find something that is just that precious to me I use extreme caution and hope that my kids like it as much as me because they will be stuck with it LOL. I never expect a quick turnaround on any investment so I don't buy with the intent to sell it as soon as I have it. No a better idea would be to wait a few years when others have been lost or damaged and the market is better then sell. One should never invest money they can not afford to lose and you should never invest in something you don't actually like because you may just be stuck with it. This is especially true in an unstable market like collectibles.
