I liked dumb action movies too at 16....

I did too around that age because back in the late 80s and early 90s that meant guaranteed nudity. :lol

This will have no redeeming qualities.

Sommers is not that bad.
I like the Mummy, and Van Helsing has really grown on me. I hated that movie when I first saw it, but now after seeing Van Helsing a few more times I really enjoy it.

Yeah, DinoLast, I agree. :D
I like Van Helsing, but I like Hugh Jackman
and monsters in general, so it wasn't hard
to win me over. I couldn't understand all of
the hate when that movie came out.
Everyone that I knew that saw it, absolutely
ripped it apart when I brought up that I saw it,
as well. I thought, it's just a fantasy movie
made in good fun, but I guess people expected
more. Which reminds me of another Sommers movie:

I remember seeing The Mummy when it came
out and when we left the theatre, my friend and
I debated how different the movie actually was
than the trailer made it appear to be. We were
shocked at all the silliness and hammy acting.
I guess it just didn't come across in the trailer
at first glance, but I wonder if that was their
intention. Take a look and see if it looks that
way to you, too:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="https://www.youtube.com/v/cLnDT6uCr_I&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="https://www.youtube.com/v/cLnDT6uCr_I&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

I still liked it, but I didn't expect all of the comedy.
I guess Brendan Fraser should've been the first clue... ;)

G.I. Joe has since grown on me and I'm looking
forward to seeing it. I agree that it's not the
same G.I. Joe I grew up on, but it is pretty
close to Sigma 6, which I collected too, so
it'll work for me either way.

To sum up: there's no accounting for taste, I suppose. :angelsmil

I stoped the dvd player half way though Van Helsing. The CGI were very bad too.

Figured this was as good a place as any to post this.

At the Suncoast movie place today they had posters for the new Joe movie...:yuck Well, my i had to look anyway and to my suprise. There was a really cool retro poster of the old school Joe and Cobra card art type characters.

I picked one up for like $7, just thought I would mention it. I will see about getting a picture posted later.

And then Khev will skewer it for being from the 25th Anniversary and not exactly the same art as the original figures had. :lol

Film Snob ;)

Yeah, what he said. ;)

Besides, we're all on an Internet board
dedicated to, what can only be described
(quite literally) as, overpriced dolls and statues
cleverly sold under the heading of "collectibles"
(of which, a few were based on the movie Van
Helsing) and we're all discussing a movie based
on a Toyline, Cartoon and Comic Book series
called G.I. Joe...

none of us have any room to talk. :rotfl

P.S. I didn't think Suncoast still existed, BuddyGus.
I loved that store and it was a great place to get
figures you couldn't find at Toys R Us, but they've
closed all of them around here... :(

:nono

That's like saying you're skewering the Sommers film for not having being exactly the same as the original Marvel comics. Different and cool is fine. Different but crap isn't.

Cool:

:lol You are WAY too anal about that. There are logistical and legal reasons why the same exact art was not used on all of the new packaging.

I really don't understand your undying hatred for the tweaked 25th Anniversary art. It's by far the best we've had (or will have) since '82 - '85.

Seriously, what is "crap" about that 2nd Beachhead card art, other than it has been tweaked to look more like the new figure? :huh From a design standpoint, they're almost exactly the same.

And even if they COULD have made the cards completely identical, you know the collectors of the original carded figures would have a ^^^^ fit.

:monkey3

:D

No kidding. I had no idea there were 2 people in the world who were fans of VAN HELSING, much less on these boards. :lol

:peace

Van helsing was the most idiotic film ever made.

some examples of it's idiocy (other than the terrible dialog, acting and utter lack of comprehensible plotline)

the trip to budapest tales them almost an entire month but the trip back takes them one day... unless of course they live in a part of the world where fiull moons happen several times a month.

throughout the entire movie dracula has all 10 fingers except in the part where they explain one has been missing all along and even after that his finger reappears.

it was horribly written, poorly directed, and even crappily edited...

it's not a movie it's a pus filled malignancy on the butthole of cinematic history.

Original Art >>>>>>>> 25th Art.

No one is disputing that at all. I'm simply saying that the 25th Anniversary Art isn't that bad and is by far the best we've had (and probably will have) since the original RAH days.

Or do you guys prefer this?:

If you're gonna hate on something, hate on that crap. Yet it's the 25th Anniversary cards that gets skewered? That's effed up :lol

Top 2 are garbage, the movie art looks good except that stupid ghey unAmerican logo.

Yea, they are better than nothing, but they should have repainted the artwork instead of photochopping it.
