What do you guys think should i buy a ps3 just for the blu ray? From what i know the ps3 is the cheapest blu ray player in the market. I have an xbox360 to play all my game so the ps3 game functions is kind of a white elephant. Do you guys have any other recommendation?

I bought a PS3 for that reason. I play some games on it occasionally but prefer my Xbox for gaming. I don't regret it. It's a nice Blu Ray player.

That's basically the only reason I bought a PS3. It seems to be the Blu-Ray player with the least amount of problems, and the easiest to update.

It costs about as much as a regular BD player, plus you get the bonus of being able to play a game every now and again.

If money is an issue, I suggest you wait for the 360 BR add on. It's in the works and should be announced sometime soon.

If you don't feel like waiting, you should try to track down a cheap 20GB version on ebay. That's what I did and it's worked great so far.

I don't own any games for my PS3 :monkey1

There are some cool games like uncharted and Mgs4. But the Blu-ray was the selling point for me.
BD is still best option for high def especially with Dark Knight coming out soon

I find it weird to know there are people out there so interested in the quality difference between regular DVD and Blu-Ray and collect collectibles that aren't into gaming.

Just don't figure videophiles and toy collectors to be non-gamers. I thought all of us crossbred?

Save your receipt. I had a problem with mine and they fixed it for free. I got one when they first came out. I'm actually thinking of getting another one just for the blu-ray player for my other TV. Whats also good about the PS3 is updates are easy. So it will stay up to date unlike some players.

Not all videophiles are also gamers. Many are just hard core film buffs, and look for the best possible presentation of films. I used to be more of a gamer, but not so much recently, although I do still play occasionally. For me, it's more about movies, and that's why I bought my PS3.

Back on topic, a month ago I would have said to go with the PS3 hands down, but there are standalone Blu-ray players hitting the market now that are every bit as good as the PS3, and prices are falling fast, especially with "holiday specials" coming up over the next month.

If I were looking to buy a new player, I'd look at the Panasonic DMP-BD35 or the Sony BDP-S350. Both offer great features and performance, and both will available at great prices in a few weeks.

I rarely play games on my PS3 but it is a plus if I'm in the mood for gaming. But my PS3 is used generally for movies and I don't regret it, that was one of my excuse to get the PS3 so I could watch bluray.

if you are going to buy a PS3, save your money and get a 20 or 40 GB. in the end you'll save a few hundred dollars upgrading the Harddrive yourself.

"Luckily" when I bought my new computer a few months back it came with a blu-ray player, but haven't even used it.

It will be good when I want something on blu-ray though. :)
