Off topic but since this is the most active Robo thread, did anyone saw the "Robodoc: The Creation of Robocop" documentary? Been waiting for that for over half a decade and the end result doesn't disappoint, but I think unlike Netflix's "Movies that Made Us" that used the RoboCrome Hot Toys as a stand in for the suit close ups, I think this ones uses the Enterbay. The film makers must have loved the Enterbay more lol.
It’s a repainted chromecop actually.

Does anyone have a more definitive photo of his black rubber finishes on film? I might try to dial back the gloss black finish just a tad, to reduce some of the toy-like finish. The reference I'm finding goes back and forth between satin to high gloss depending on lighting. It also appears both his black chin/neck pieces as well as his helmet are both a touch glossier than the other surfaces on his suit.

It depends which movie you're trying to lean it towards. 2 and 3 were def on the super glossy side while 1 leaned more towards a satin-semi gloss like finish. 1 had that home-built look to it with its wear and tear. The black surface area wasn't smooth and had a lot of imperfections but that might be something that happened as the movie progressed. 2 and 3 looks like it came fresh out of some factory. Man I love how the suit looked in 1.

I have two, and neither broke. It can happen. It is more likely to happen because of the clear plastic. That does not mean it is going to happen.

It looks legitimately fantastic here--much closer to the titanium grey it should be. Legitimately curious how this thing will look in my display.

Has anyone here done a repaint/refinish of the black portions before? I'm curious if it's something I could do myself.

Yall keep trying to find movie accuracy in this figure should just hang it up. That was NEVER going to be a possibility to begin with...

Lower those expectations just a tad or don't buy the damn thing and move on with life. This is HT. 9 times outta 10, it's most certainly not going to be a 1 to 1 relpilca of what you see on screen.

And I think you knew that going in. Yet NOW the prototype and photoshopped product pics are what you based your argument on.

Hilarious.

Yeah but it's clearly just the color which in itself shouldnt be so wrong while it was advertised to be blue like the movie. Would you buy a pink suit Myers that was originally advertised with the original colors? Don't think so...

Nope I wouldn't. And that's simply a piss poor example tbh. But I certain you've more.

Yes was posted a few pages back. Looks great when done.

Yeah, I know it's been done--I was asking if anyone active in the thread had experience doing it (this one looks like a DarkSpidey piece and I don't think he's active here anymore).

As Hologram mentioned, the black parts of the suit in RoboCop 1 had a less glossy appearance (I don't know if satin is the right word, but that's what I call it). Regarding the helmet, it should have the same finish as the suit. In RoboCop 1, however, the suit was made of a more flexible material than the helmet, which let to paint cracking and daily repaints of the body armour--which give it a less glossy appearance in some shots.

Personally, I greatly prefer the satin finish for the black parts of the suit. I think the high-gloss seen in RoboCop 2 and 3 causes all the interesting shapes to disappear.

I'm curious how you would tackle toning down the gloss?

It's not laziness, it's just common sense. Making new molds is expensive, so making new molds for a portion of the figure that can't be seen and in no way impacts the product makes no sense.

Now, not getting rid of the lights on the DX stands despite the fact that they took the electronics out--that was dumb as hell, because that actually impacts the presentation of the piece.

Sounds like something a shill would say.
Hot Toys are historically lazy, that was my point.
The end.

I’d just tape off the gray parts and airbrush on a satin finish topcoat. Probably use tamiya semi gloss clear, it’s pretty durable.

I’ve just now painted the black parts made them more duller and a bit weathered. At stock it looks like a shiny black plastic gimp outfit the village people would wear.

Maybe I'll pick up an airbrush and do some tests see if I can do this to a satisfactory level of quality--maybe do a test run on my MMS202. Wouldn't want to ruin the finish, but the gloss is an eyesore.

I've been waiting YEARS for the whole thing to finally be finished. Honestly thought it was abandoned years ago.

I can't imagine there's a whole lot we don't already know from the mountains of behind the scenes features, commentaries, and interviews over the years, but I'm still super-psyched to finally be able to sit down and watch this!

While the main cast are largely repeating the same stories we've heard for years, the doc features basically everyone they could find from the production--i.e. most of the bit parts--and those people all have some pretty amusing anecdotes that are all new to me. So far it's well worth the price of admission, in my opinion.
