Is it wrong for me to think tha.t this Batman and CW/Selina are better as friends or allies in combat then a romance. The chemistry with their romantic angle seems hokey or maybe it was just how the 3rd act went down

but Zoe and Robert do act together well. I just don’t think this Batman and Selina should be a couple

The whole thing feels cringy, at least out of context.

It reminds me too much of the "crazy" Lex Luthor in BVS with ding ding ding crap. Also, Riddler and Joker both laughing for no reason was too obvious. Nothing funny was said, so they're just laughing because that's their thing. I guess the point of the riddle and answer is that they're teaming up, so they're laughing because of it, but it just feels forced, but then again, they have to let people know who it is, so the laugh is one way to do it. I prefer the Batman Begins joker card ending.

It made perfect sense in the context of the film and not watching crap on youtube.

Honestly, the batmobile startup was a favorite highlight of the movie and i still can’t believe Paul Dano pulled off the riddler, the same dude from the girl next door lmao hahaha omggg

To be honest This riddler was a twisted version of Frank Gorshin’s and I love it.

How did the pretentious “Eternal” is the unname joker was a surprise to me

Haven’t commented much because I’m still processing this movie.

It's been a couple of hours now and there's an afterglow to this film that just makes me smile. I can't remember the last time I saw something like this that felt like a ... story that transported me away, instead of just a merchandising vehicle -- yeah I'm looking at you, MCU and Nu Star Wars.

It didn't feel like well-worn formula or design-by-committee. It felt like a unified vision brought to life, it felt like a film, and yeah -- it felt like a comic book. I got both Year One and Long Halloween vibes, as well as strong BTAS vibes.

@Wor-Gar ... YMMV but the film didn't feel too long. Could it have been tighter in spots? Sure. But I was so immersed in Gotham and the world-building that I was happy to spend as much time as possible there, soaking it all in.

Also, I loved The Riddler. He was a credible and frightening villain.

"Credible?!" -- critics may ask -- sure, there are definitely a few leaps and stretches made in this film, things glossed over ... but I'm buying a guy in a cape and pointy-eared mask helping cops fight crime, so within reason I'm going to give certain things a pass. I can't see my suspension of disbelief being pushed too far most of the time, and the film's atmospherics buy it a lot of goodwill from me.

I give this film a 9 out of 10. It loses a point based on a few nitpicks and reaches, a couple of misfires. But I was entertained and satisfied. I look forward to watching it again.

I was never a big Nolan fanboy -- I enjoyed his films but didn't think they were definitive and his Gotham was bland. Having rewatched them all recently, I prefer Batman Begins in many ways to TDKR, which mainly has Ledger's performance and some tight action scenes to its credit, but I don't find it riveting.

Pattinson's Batman is great. I don't like the level of armour he sports in terms of what he can wade through, but that's a script issue and doesn't reflect on his performance. I've warmed up to the suit. I would have preferred something more streamlined and I still don't love the gauntlets, but it works well in motion.

I like Catwoman. Don't like her mask, but Kravitz moves like a vamp and does the femme fatale thing better than expected; she has done her homework. I think she has good chemistry with Bats.

I really enjoyed The Penguin. You can see Farrell in the eyes and he's just a good villain.

The film has subtle details all over it which I appreciate. Some directly from Bat-lore, others just character beats.

The Batmobile is awesome. What an intro, what a character. Puts the Tumbler (whatever that is) to shame and has an evil, feral quality that even the beloved Keaton-mobile lacks.

I enjoyed all of the action except for what trailers have already shown -- taking too many gunshots at point-blank range.

This is my favourite Batman film.

Ok let me bring up the 3rd act elephant in the room that ONE BIG thing that i’m having trouble reconciling with the one thing that hurts the movie for me.

that they gave us a JL Batman already at only year 2! Vengeance was gone he literally says it at the end while carrying a kid which is a job for a fireman, ems or police NOT freaking Batman at year 2 leave that menial work for regular menial people lol

He freaking replaced vengeance with daylight public safety duties

I get it.

It just worked for me.

But I felt that Reeves got his point across, and it will work for future films.

“As much as he wants to think he’s doing this to make the city better, it’s really for himself also, to make sense of his life. And I don’t think he understands the degree to which he’s driven in this way that’s really a personal vendetta. And that’s why he begins in this when he doesn’t say, you know, ‘I’m Batman,’ like the Burton movies, he says, ‘I’m vengeance,’ which does come from the comics and from the animated series. And I thought, well, what I’d love to do is I’d like to see him have an awakening over the course of the story, so he starts to understand that he has to be more, that he has to change, that it’s not enough to take this path of vengeance.” - Matt Reeves

While Batman has always been about Vengeance, he also had controlled Vengeance.

He was on the line in this one. He may have killed the guy he was pummeling to death had he not been stopped.

He saw that just being Vengeance was not creating the symbol he wanted in Gotham.

Plus, that overhead shot of him leading the people out was great.



I can't wait to see this again. Been a while that a film has stuck with me this long after seeing it.

With Cloverfield, Let Me In, Dawn and War of the Planet of the Apes and now The Batman, I think I have a new fav modern director.

The Matticus Review you've all been waiting for...LIKE THE CLIMAX OF THE 5TH ACT!

TOO LONG! I thought the movie would end soon, but 40 minutes later it finally ends. Or even an hour later, I don't know lol. The movie felt like it was 10 hours for as immersive as it was. So immersive, but honestly, not structurally sound.

As I said above, for me, the atmosphere and immersion had me enthralled for the whole film, so I had no problem with the run time. I do think it could have been edited tighter but ... I just don't care because I had such a great time. I'll re-watch it happily. So while from a technical standpoint you may be right ... I give it a pass.

oh there was an ouchie scene.

I think they could have shortened that scene, yeah -- but I understand why it was there. Just a bit heavy-handed.

The tone and feel was awesome. So grounded and you literally go with Batman everywhere. That's what I liked and wanted.

Gods yes.

The Batmobile scene was incredible. You felt like you were right in the action. Very intense, very satisfying. This makes me want a HT Batmobile now.

That. Car. Is an animal. From hell. I haven't heard anything that cool since the howl of TIE Fighter.

It felt right.

The whole film felt right for me.

Riddler was interesting until his reveal. I feel like he was shown too much.

He worked for me, all the way through. Stayed true to the source material in many ways while being a frightening update that reflects some truly awful things we've seen in the news the last few years. The character is a dark commentary and Dano ... err ... murders it.

I like how Dano loses it at times.

Oh yeah.

Farrell as the Penguin was awesome. Very smart ass. Can't wait to see more of him if that HBO Max show is a thing.

This guy shouldn't be taking gunfire like Superman.

If there was just one thing I could change, this would be it.

A lot of focus and detail on the detective/story work. It could have used one more action sequence, but I have to give WB credit to give the green light to this grounded of a Batman movie.

Loved it.

Battinson nailed this. So minute (my NOOT) in his performance. It was special and the voice he got just right. The Batsuit, how it looked, his ability to fight - it all felt right and honest. This Batman was Year Two, he is over aggressive and not totally superior yet. I liked to see him fail.

The worst crime this movie made WAS 15 SECONDS OF THE BATCYCLE! WHAT?!??!?!?!? I was totally looking forward to a cool sequence with him driving around on it!

Love that thing, love the look ... but like a couple of other things in this film, I like that Reeves left us wanting more.

To say this movie is better than TDK is ridiculous.

We can assume he's spent enough time on the Dark Web to do better than your run-of-the-mill consumer-grade VPN.

BvS warehouse scene > any action in this film.

I can't even compare the two. That BvS scene is great but more like a video game cutscene. Which come to think of it sums up Snyder's work.

I didn't quite get how Batman can deck an officer, get shot and ran after, then hang out with them again at a crime scene.

I knew he was coming but somehow I was still surprised. WHAT AN ENTRANCE!!

The entire cast, (and I do include the also terrifying Batmobile in that), is stellar with no weak link in the chain and, at an impressive 3 hour run time, the film is superbly paced, and flies by in the blink of an eye.

Yes to all and THAT BATMOBILE.

In summary; a bold, intelligent and uncompromising neo-noir detective driven Batman that will go down in history as a modern classic, reimagining Batman for generations however being more true to source than ever before.
