Jaws. It?s all about merchandise. Avatar was a huge seller and people sung its praises back then . It?s all but forgotten . Yes the ST made more money than the PT at the box office but the pt sells more abd is still selling toys and merch and is still popular. Star Wars couldnt survive in box office numbers alone it needed the merchandise to keep it going . The ST sells pretty much none . No collectors want them and kids like the older stuff. Mando is the only new thing that sells.

I have always said that the ST did an awful job of making new and original toys.. They spent all their time reusing items from the OT. If I want a tie Fighter I either

A. Already have one or
B. Would buy one from the OT

Its were I say that if the purpose of purchasing SW was for the toys then they should have followed the GL way of doing things and created something new and different for every single film..

Also lets not forget that when the PT came out you had idiots buying two of everything (I was one of them :lol) thinking they would go up in value.

Now that the PT has had time to breath the PT fans are grown up are buying up PT toys just like the OT fans do when they got older.

Now... I know a lot of PT haters that own PT toys but no ST toys. That again goes back to GL cool imagination and the ST not really coming up with something cool.. Hell I like the ST and I dont own anything from it accept the collectors cup from the movie theater :lol

Time will tell if the younger generation gives a crap about the ST.. I doubt they will.. Like I have been saying... Way too much Competition.. That is were KK missed the mark she should be trying to please only the old PT and OT fans.. We are the only ones likely to keep caring... No matter how good the films are.

I get into it at work with twenty somethings about the better saga.... SW, LOTR... Or Freaking Harry Potter.. They always pick Harry Potter :lol... There are some that have seen the PT and ST but not even watched the OT.. WTH??. God knows how they are bringing their kids up.. No wonder none of the toys sell :lol

Just saw this to. They even made freakin jar jar. Something is definitely wrong with your franchise if jar jar sells more than the newest characters. The fanbase for the ST is pretty much all but dead. I?d say like maybe 500 people tops loved it . If kids liked it then they?d have more games centered around the ST . All upcoming games are in the middle of pt and ot.

Star Wars survived this long off merchandise not ticket sales and it?s laughable that jar jar binks still sells more than rey and kylo but that?s understandable.

SW survived a long time without any merchandise actually. SW went on a major toy vacation until mid 90's when Power of the Force toys came out.

AS far as kids liking the films.. I think reading my other posts we all agree... I dont think kids are interested.. I also dont think its kids buying those video games.. Its people like us... The argument could be made that that is the fault of the ST. But were toys selling well or games being made when TFA came out.. Biggest movie of all time that everyone loved but me :lol

Like I said.. the ST really came out at a bad time to be as average as it was.. So much competition, the internet to let the hate flow, and OT and PT fans to hate on them together..

As I stated I bet you the PT would not survive this day and age either. I dont believe the PT fans would have been as forgiving at all. You would have been right there with us OT fans :lol

I am just in a happy place now where I accept that there are two great SW films and the rest I can sit back and enjoy. Well accept for AOTC and TLJ.. But I can even find parts of them to like.

It's definitely true that the toys played a large part in keeping the films alive and relevant for all this time. You have to love this stuff a lot to spend all the money and display it in your house. The vast majority of ST people don't actually give a damn about Star Wars, just their agenda. That is why they don't buy.

I don't visit other sites enough to know about this "Agenda" I agree that there seems to be one in TLJ but I dont see it in TFA or TROS.

Yes I mostly agree with that statement but with the qualifier that the majority of hard-core fans of a long running franchise such as Star Wars almost always have a better take on what should and shouldn't be than some egghead critic hired by the media. Critic reviews nowadays are bought and paid for.

But remember that many of the those long time hardcore fans hated the PT.. It was not until the younger generation grew up that gave the PT its new found respect.

But I agree.. I dont think the ST will ever be accepted like the PT is. Both OT and PT fans seem to dislike it overall and the kids dont care. Again I blame that on all that is out there. I am not sure how much an impact the OT would have had on me as a kid if I had freaking Marvel movies :lol

But I found a way to enjoy them. I like some of the ideas and welcome any further story telling that might make them a bit "cooler"

Ignoring them or Retconning them would be foolish.. I saw that as someone who wanted the PT to be ignored but have come to like them because of the Cartoons, mando and ST.

Oh well. We cant all agree on everything but I love discussing it rationally with you guys

It's definitely on display the worst in TLJ. Not as apparent in the ANH remake/recast that was TFA. It was apparent in TROS but not as prevalent as in TLJ because of all the backlash. It's in all the stuff Kennedy and the story group are heavily involved with to varying degrees. It's Galaxy's Edge. It's L3 in Solo. It's Pablo Hidalgo. It's all the anger from the people at Lucasfilm over Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian. It's the High Republic. It's Disney's official Twitter backing blatantly racist comments by one of their employees while ignoring months of abuse taken by Gina Carano and openly calling for her job for the sin of having a different opinion on certain social issues. I could come up with more but I think this is enough.

For the record I tried to like the ST, I really did. After TFA I bought HT Rey and BB8, Kylo Ren, and a couple troopers. Then TLJ happened and well you know the rest :duff

I guess I have always enjoyed the PT toys more than the actual films. And I never viewed them as hostile toward the OT because any damage they might have caused was not intentional. Some of the ideas, concepts, and designs were cool, alot of the execution was lacking.

Meanwhile the ST was intentionally hostile towards the mythos, universe, and established characters of the OT.

Lol I was very young when lotr and Harry Potter came out. It?s a very hard pick cause those movies were big and I loved them both as a child . I love Harry Potter cause I grew up with the characters but I love lotr cause it was so epic . Very hard to choose. Star Wars for me was a generational thing . My older sister passed her love for it down to me and she hated the PT to

I almost bought TFA finn and the stormtrooper two pack along with TFA kylo. I had Rey on preorder. Canceled everything after I saw TLJ. Glad I saved my money. Would have been one of the biggest things I regretted buying.

I find this funny.

When MCU spiderman was announced people on tumblr were dissing Peter parker spiderman in favor of Miles. I wasn't going to have any of that. So This one girl says Miles is important and goes through more things than Peter did is more diverse and is better written.

I proceeded to tell her how Peter parker went through the same things and more and how he had avery diverse world and just cause he was white didn't mean his character is bad person. Yes it's cool to have Black hero characters but that shouldn't be all they known for and miles at the time was only known for being Black Spiderman.
SO she pretty much had no argument and left the converstion saying she knew nothing about spiderman even tho she made a commetn saying how miles is better than Peter. So yea most people on twitter know nothing about comics or the characters and just want to cry about stuff they don'treally understand cause it's cool.

Same thing with video games. Many "femenist" said they were no strong women in video games and most of video games are just pretty white men. Iginoring the fact that Lara croft was pretty much a Playstation icon and most VG characters are animals or other creatures. So yea they pretty much know nothing of what they are talking about.

I'm all for diversity but don't say there hasn't been that much inclusion when there has. You just didn't pay attention to it when it wasn't relevant. Anyway end rant lol

Dunno, I have ST stuff.....I know a bunch of other collectors who also do.

As a matter of fact, I know a forum where it has threads where collectors of ST 1/6 scale figures talk about them.....many of the thread counts are pretty high.

:)

Really . Cause I just the at star wars threads and saw no ST figures being discussed. :)

Unless your talking about another forum. At which case . Cool

Obviously we are always going to agree to disagree on this film.

Personally I don't get the "its all so beautiful" part. IMO it does not look better then TROS and only looks better the TFA because TFA had the look of a made for TV special. :lol

And other then the Luke scene's and some of the Snoke Scenes I personally dont think its well written at all.

I dont think any of the action in the film is well done or thought out. Its created in a F/X studio so i can only blame the writer the the creater of the story boards. Which I believe is RJ.

What I will give you is that its well paced. I think jumping between 4 different stories really helps with that.

You have the Most interesting Luke / Rey

The less interesting but still watchable Kylo / Rey / Snoke

The bad Poe and Haldo

and the Awful Rose and Finn

There is a lot going on. So for me personally just when I have had about enough of the stuff I hate RJ move on to something I like more.

But lets say I liked all elements. Then the pacing would still be very solid as jumping between 4 different stories keeps out attention deficit minds engaged :lol

Plus RJ did something that no SW film has ever done.. He created a shrinking machine.. BB8 is about thigh high.. Until this scene where he is about ankle high. Watch it in real time and you will see what i mean. I could blame the F/X team but I am sure its the shot RJ wanted so its his fault :lol

I mean imagine if BB8 rolled over to the woman in white... he would be lucky to come up to her ankle :lol
Shrinking in the SW universe may be canon now but its not going to be in my head canon.

I don't know if it was confidence or a director who just thought he was so cute and smart with his ideas and plot twists.. IDK.

I just know we will never agree on this topic and that is 100% perfectly fine :)

:duff

Yep, obviously this isn't a situation where I can say anything that will change your mind about the quality of the film but I do appreciate that you've always been one of the guys who can disagree without having to resort to insults. :duff

How crazy and sad that there are people who assume that disagreeing with someone about what movies you like translates to "losing friends." :cuckoo:

Dunno, I have ST stuff.....I know a bunch of other collectors who also do.

The only Hot Toys I own are Bespin Luke and Crait Luke. I also own the original SSC ESB Yoda and Bib Fortuna randomly enough which is suddenly awesome now thanks to Mandalorian, lol. I do have HT Ahsoka, Deluxe ESB Fett, and a Dark Trooper on preorder though. I probably won't keep Ahsoka since I preordered her before Rosario played her in Mando.

My sole SW PF is ROTJ Fett and then I've got a smattering of true vintage Kenner OT and some TVC from the PT, ST, RO and Solo.

I haven't rewatched the particular scene, but based on the image you posted, it looks like he was using a wide angle lens. It has the illusion of making things in the background look farther/smaller. They probably chose that focal length to make the set bigger than it was in reality.

I prefer to think RJ is an incompetent film maker :lol

that could still cause damage and be just as deadly lol but it'd be a comedy.
