Suit up Tony Stark in the background? Bottom left you can see a figure of him.

Glad to get a second chance on this--this is the re-issue I've been waiting for.

As for the complaints about re-issues? I see the same attitude in the art print community. People will complain that if a print is re-issued, it's no longer an art piece, it's just a poster. Well, no matter how rare it is, it IS just a poster. In the art print industry they slap an edition size on it specifically as a ploy to convince people that it has more value than a poster, but it doesn't.

Hot Toys doesn't even do edition sizes, so this "rarity" thing seems to be something the fans have convinced themselves of.

Some people are just salty that the dolly on their shelf is now back down to being worth retail....even though they had no intention of selling it anyway.

You could also say this dolly is highly sought after because of its high value. When this was available nobody picked it up, same with Mark 47, Shoretrooper, Dark side Anakin and light side Anakin, etc.

People want what they cant have and when they can have it they don't care. When SS does their fake low stock on items everyone clammers for it.

I'm not salty my figures tanked, I'm annoyed that they arent announcing the Mark I diecast! ;)

Agree completely, though I'd rather they do PF Mark 1 instead :lol

Yeah, I understand the business standpoint and people who missed out having another chance. But like you said, these are on pre-order now for over a year before release - so you either missed out because you didn't really want it or you were not collecting at the time. Like you, I'm just hoping to finish out with the Mark I and hopefully the rest of the HPP. Then I'm switching completely to statues as many of the better statue manufacturers have now surpassed Hot Toys in details and quality.

Asked to jump on the unofficial reissue list from my regular dealer, wanted this when I first started collecting but prices are/where nuts!

1/6 12inch great in my glass cases. I wanted something larger and although I've never been a statue fan I am now loving these statues. I just recently picked up Sideshow's Iron Man maquettes Mark's I, II, and III. Their size and presence is unmatched. There is something special about them. I'm also into 1:1 props. They are a whole other beast on their own.

*yawn*
The whole "reissue" thing is getting tiresome, to be honest. They are just trying to capitalize on the aftermarket, yet again.
I won't be surprised when all of the House Party Protocol figures start being reissued... I don't own
any of those, but some of them command pretty decent $$. It's all just business moves, anyhow.

Having a diecast Mark I announcement, now THAT would be exciting.

Yup! With all the reissues and remakes vs new IPs it reminds me Hasbro or store bought toys (nothing wrong with that). Why I really loved Hot Toys was their niche market. They are slowly becoming part of the machine. I'm on my way out. Those coming into the fold are excited because everything is new. In a few years they'll understand.

They aren't going to stop releasing armors just because there aren't any more new designs, plus this way they get even more profit. Reissues and recolors, at least once the massive in stock blacklog of suits gets cleared out. I'd be nice if they used the Iron Man cash flow to prop up more new and interesting, less overwhelmingly popular licenses, like a big movie studio also investing in riskier independent projects on the side. Oh well.

At least Hasbro bothers with more than one character. I have Okoye, Nakia, M'baku, and a lineup of Dora Milaje in Legends form. I have a Starforce Captain Marvel, a Grandmaster, Korg, MJ, even Luis. You can even get the whole Black Order, plus pretty much every other villain. With Hot Toys you may get something fun and different for a single Toy Fair exclusive every other year when they aren't just using that for reissues as well.

100% correct!

I said it before, but I'll say it again. I would love a Jeff Goldblum HT figure (assuming they get the headsculpt right)!

For people who are in this for the speculation of it all, do re-releases really change anything?

A first edition Mark V is still going to be a first edition Mark V, and the high-end collectors you're theoretically going to sell yours to for huge profit are still going to want a first edition.

Just seems like all the griping about the re-releases is a little overblown.

Look at prices on reissued figures:

Iron Man Mark 43
Iron Man Hulkbuster
Iron Man Mark 47
Original Spiderman Homecoming release
Original Gantry release
Original Spiderman Homemade Suit
Star Wars Deathtrooper

Now the Mark V.

Soon Shoretrooper

You must be a new collector.

I don't think people value a first edition any more than a second edition. Especially when the reissues usually come with some kind of improvement. E.g., improved paint on Mark 47 head sculpt, improved suit on homecoming Spiderman. I don't care about resale value though and people shouldn't be buying these with the expectation of the value going up. But for someone who wants the best version of these, it does irk me a bit that people who didn't really want these until they saw the high after market prices end up getting a better version. I know there are some new collectors that missed out, but if that's the operating model for Hot Toys, then they are going to start losing a lot of their current long time customers.

Posted this in the other Mark V thread lol, thought it applied here.

At this point they will rerelease everything and after that rererelease it all again haha. I understand this a business, but you dont see automakers rereleasing cars that have gone up significantly.

What happens when a government just prints more money when there isn't precious metals to back it up? It becomes worthless. If Hot Toys keeps this up collecting their products will become pointless too. In a sense they are in fact causing their own demise. Yes, they are getting new customers at the expense of alienating their preexisting consumers.

Fact:

Acquiring a new customer can cost five times more than retaining an existing customer. Increasing customer retention by 5% can increase profits from 25-95%. The success rate of selling to a customer you already have is 60-70%, while the success rate of selling to a new customer is 5-20%.

The idea about people only buying re-issues because "they saw the aftermarket values" is pretty dubious. There are lots of reasons someone might jump on a reissue.

Off the top of my head;

- Not everyone is in a position to buy every single Hot Toy they want every day. Buying a luxury Iron Man might not have made sense two years ago.

- People's collections change shape over time. Another Iron Man might make more sense today than it did two years ago.

- People's tastes change, so they might value a certain look or film more than they did before.

- Or, most obviously, they may not have been collecting when the initial release is done.

I totally get the idea that you want to have the best version of something, but Hot Toys has been consistently remaking figures for ten years. It's not a surprise. You should buy every figure with the knowledge that a better one might be made some day, and if that transaction no longer makes sense for you, then it may make sense to be more discerning with your purchases.
