Solo didn't work out fine though. You can debate on the character but not the box office results.

Luke will surely be more profitable but in light of his ST portrayal vs. The Mandalorian cameo, a million times more polarizing.

Solo bombed because it was a movie nobody was asking for. I skipped it because TLJ was a stinker, and I was getting Star Wars fatigue. I still need to watch Solo, but honestly have had zero motivation to watch it. I hear the guy that plays Solo is actually one of the better things about it. TLJ is the last SW I saw in theaters.

Agreed on the polarization with Luke, but you could argue Solo's poor performance was contributed to by other causes. That's all opinion anyway, though.

Agreed. The extent to which Solo bombed had way more to do with the film it followed than anything else. I neither loved or hated Alden in Solo, but I do kinda think it was a movie that not many people were necessarily dying to see.

They took a risk that paid off, IMO. It's not a perfect film by any means but it's a lot of fun and feels more like the OT in terms of balancing drama with a sense of lighthearted adventure. I actually find it re-watchable and it even improves as you do, since you can turn off the obsessive fan-vivisection it triggers on first viewing.

I will give it a chance at some point. Star Wars has been just so mediocre and over-commercialized lately I have tuned it out except for the Mandalorian.

I wonder how much of the 15 new Star Trek shows I will watch, not really interested in any, but might here good things about 1 or 2 of them. I just want quality over quantity, and not get over-saturated again.

They can re-cast the crap out of him. Han worked out fine.

*EDIT: As far as I'm concerned. :lol ...I do understand what will happen though. :horror

The thing about Alden as Han - and a hypothetical casting of Sebastian Stan as Luke - they couldn't share a film. The latter actor is older and taller than the former and for the characters it should be the reverse. Bummer.

Deepfaking it is.

Solo is a great fun ride. Lots of fan service and zero need for the young Solo to be Ford......Aldrich was great. Solo is a guilty pleasure as it?s just fun to watch...

In other news.....how the hell can some random person take less than a week and improve the Luke scene in Mando dramatically.

Honestly , almost all of the Disney de aging has been upended by some random guys....

Wish we could add that footage to the original. Same with the Tarkin footage.

Favreau was really upset that Ahsoka and Fett leaked so early and that was one of the reasons they went CGI for Luke (and R2 as well.)

That way they could just tell the actors in the room to be in awe at what they were watching on the security monitors, ask "are you a Jedi" when the doors open, then look sad as Grogu leaves. It sounds like no one knew which Jedi answered the call save F&F and a handful of animators.

Hamill did provide mo-cap for the close ups and shots of him holding and looking at Grogu but wasn't ever in the same room with the other actors.

I think they themselves leaked Cobb, Fett and Ahsoka as a sacrifice to help protect Luke.

It worked kind off Luke literally leaked 2 days prior well it was more speculation than an actual leak it was weird lol.

Damn spoilers when will I finally stop caring. :gah:

Oh I never heard about Cobb. :lol

And weren't we all expecting TM to play both Fett *and* Rex this season? I'm pretty sure I remember myself speculating whether they'd have Rex be the one to kill Fett, lol.

I remember someone posting concept art of Michael Biehn as a mud trooper, I wonder if that was legit. Mando said "he reads as ex-military" so I wonder if that was supposed to be his position in the Empire back in the day.

No, I mean was it all misdirection...

He could never say "we're doing Luke"... people would go nuts and never be satisfied with the final result after weeks of imagining what it would be like. It would be a disaster if it got out.

Fair question I suppose. He did say he was blown away that they kept Grogu a secret for Season 1 even with him appearing in every episode so I got the sense that he was looking forward to even more big surprises this time around. But no one knew what to expect with Mando prior to last year and since it ran parallel to the divisive ST I'm sure a lot of people were kind of ignoring it compared to now where it pretty much everybody is chomping at the bit for news.

I can't remember all the timing but Olyphant, Dawson, and Morrison were all leaked months in advance. The secrets the crew of The Mandalorian have managed to keep are pretty impressive for this day and age.

Because its easier to improve something that is already improved. They are deepfaking the already CGI'd Luke. Of course they can improve on it.

So why didn't they do so? Time constraints? Don't think so. The improved deepfake appeared within days of the episode airing. How constrained could they be?
