I think its a wonderful piece and will be even better in hand. It doesn't matter to me if the Balrog is still holding the whip or its around Gandalf's ankle still in this pose its just a representation of the event and I think they have done an amazing job of capturing it with this pose. This and the Fell Beast/Eagle dio will look incredible displayed, problem is where?? Anyone else running out of room and turning their homes into mini LOTR museums??!! :rotfl

i hear ya brotha' i'm still trying to figure out where i'm going to display the fell beast and eagle dio...:confused:

Thanks for the links IB.;)

Yes right you are but while Gandalf is falling he does also grab onto the Balrog's horn/tusk whatever you want to call it and SS got that right too

Agreed Sawyer as at some point during the free fall GTG grabs hold of the horn.

True although it is not an exact representation from the film it is still an incredibly nice looking piece and one that i will consider but like others have said with being into PF's finding the space is the main issue as well as dosh obviously.

With reference to the whip i always considered that it was a flame whip that was created by the Balrog and then it smouldered(if that's the right word)after he used it on Gandalf.

Hmm, looks good but like many others i think the more iconic choice would have been on the bridge. It seems like they're more focused on action with this piece which is fine, after all it is the Balrog vs Gandalf!
My first thoughts were that I would have preferred the scene on the bridge, Gandalf looks a bit cartoony - especially his bendy plastic looking sword! And I didn't know why the whip was going up his robes until i saw it was still attached to his ankle! However it is impressive, and I know Gandalf will look better in the final in-hand piece, like with every other dio we've had from this line!
Leaning towards ordering the flex-pay option...

when i first started late in collecting it was lotr. then i started doing many different lines and lotr fell to the side. this is the first lotr anything i've ordered since changing interests. AWESOME!!!! i wonder if they got the fire whip breaking problem solved when they decided to revisit balrog?

Gandalf is holding on to one of the balrog's horns

How the hell did I not notice that?:duh

From what I can see of the pics, someone whos seen this in person may be able to clarify but the whip/fire on the Dio looks plastic.Plus the whip looks thicker and not as 'flamey'(sorry couldnt think of a better way to explain it).

If thats the case, that the new one is plastic fire it would definately be a change from the Daddy Rog as that whip was wire surrounded by poly fire, hence all the breakages.

In person the flame did not appear to be plastic.

Dusty does a sorta' backstage pass on the Dio and you can make a size comparison because he stands right next to it the whole time.

Enjoy! :whip
