The pram is the only accessory that seems really essential for this character, but I just don't see how HT could have included it without adding an extra $200 to the price, given the size and impracticality of shipping it. Unless they were to cut it up into bite-sized sections first.

Doesn't seem as crazy to me as some are making out. Toy companies like Hasbro do similar stuff and that pram isn't even all that complex. It could be divided into 3 medium sized parts that snap together or attach with a few screws. The paint is pretty simple too. Get rid of the extra ears, add $50 if you must(I don't think it's necessary), and then you have something worth considering over the Sideshow.

The ears are far more appealing than a giant plastic Easer Egg. There's no way the pram tacks on only $50 to this set. You're essentially looking at a 1/6 vehicle from a production standpoint. There's a good bit of interior detail and the weathering has to be spot on so it doesn't look like a toy. I say that having just painted up my 1/12 printed one. If the paint app is skimped on it'd look like those atrocious Hall of Armor pieces, akin to something Mattel made.

Plus you'd have to factor in the cost of an acrylic post and base for him to float.

A deluxe set with pram would easily go for $700.

Doesn't look much like a $700 vehicle to me. It's pretty basic. And the ears on the Hot Toys look atrocious.

I could definitely see it adding $300 to the price. So $700 makes sense. As simplistic as it is, there's still a lot that goes into manufacturing, painting, and logistics for something that size.

I don't get the criticism of the ears, seam aside. The HT ones look more accurate to me when looking at both and a screen shot, and everyone touts how the SS ears are translucent, but seriously how many people are going to be blasting him with light to even be able to see that inside a home?

Gonna guess a fair number given the pics I see of displays with light strips. I keep my figs/statues pretty dark, usually, but I use bookcases/glass doors. Maybe part of the reason some older figs have held up well - dunno.

For me tho IF the SSC fig had a thick coat of paint - on the ears, on a statue, yeah, I could see where it might not look so good. Don't know enough about painting, tho having no primer seems to be problem too (thin paint chipping down to poly).

But opting for HT, when I get around to ordering. For me just works better, and like the articulation even if minimal.

Oh geez, that’s hard to look at. I’m sure the harsh lighting and possible lense distortion aren’t doing it any favors, but even the ear seams look glaringly obvious in that video. Did they really need to be interchangeable?

Well I do think proper lighting is going to be key to making this figure (or the SS statue) look it's best. One thing you notice in the vast majority of shots of the puppet is how it's mostly lit from above and behind, with the face kept mostly in shadow. As they found that was best way to make Yoda look believable back in the day.

So that'll be important to remember when we finally get these in hand.

I don't believe the Sideshow has translucent ears. They look painted to me.

Sideshow have rarely ever used a translucent resin in their statues for skin representation, unlike Prime 1 who use it in nearly everything. They’ve recently (2 years or so) started using PVC from movie headsculpts, but rarely do they use the resin type. The only one that I know of (I think) is the Hal Jordon Green Lantern. It’s nearly always Polystone, but when I first saw those original prototype photos I would’ve sworn it was a translucent resin, as they’ve never been able to paint something that achieved that effect.

From Justin?s Collection....eeesh. Does look bad here

Actually the pics cheered me up. IMO the use of plastic gives a nice sense of translucence esp. the hands. The nails look like they have some dirt. Neat work on the costume. The necklace is a bit off:pfft:, the real one has "beading" around the top of the horns and much sharper lines overall, so that's a cheat. Surprised as HT seems to be pretty accurate with accessories.

Yeah, the lighting doesn't do any favors but this Child always did look a bit hostile:cool:. The seams don't bother me - figure rubbing in some putty or makeup to soften the line can be done (don't see myself switching the ears that often). Don't know what else they can do except offer 2 heads $$$$

Waiting to order for a bit anyway; curious about the promised 1/4 scale version.

A 1/4 scale version never made much sense to me, I thought they'd do a 1/2 scale version since it's big enough for detail but not huge.

I agree. Just like the original Yoda, I found 1/4 scale to be way too small, whereas at 1/2 scale the Sideshow Legendary scale Yoda is probably as small as I would want (and have) in my collection.

Unless the 1/4 scale child is a possible sign they?ll eventually do a 1/4 Mando. That?d have to be my first 1/4 if they make a 1/4 Mando beskar

I'd be so over a 1/4 Mando.:drool:drool:drool

LOL a good reminder to me to stash some cash, for whatever future gotta-have items these companies might put out 2021 (around season 2).
