True but unsure what I would charge for just the Jawa. I wouldn't want to over-pay for the Gonk, either. I'll wait until it is available and see what the going price is.
I would think that down the line you'll see some decent prices on the Gonk (and their worth) as people looking for doubles of the Jawa get two packs and sell off the droid. I'm gonna stick with one pack and take my luck that they release a second with R5 in the future.

I'm in agreement with most of you in that I don't see the value in this release.

I can't believe I'm saying this but I prefer the SS version, even with the floppy body issues.

I really want the Gonk droid but don't want the Jawa, so don't want to pay that much for the pair.

If you just want the Gonk, there's some unpainted ones in the Customs section here by RustyJ.

This release is totally disappointing and I'm glad I didn't preorder now seeing the pics. Really wanted a Jawa, I shouldn't not been so cheap when I saw auctions for the SS ones a few months ago and just bought them. I kept trying to get the pair for under $150.

You are getting this too? I thought I was the only one? ;) I wanted to buy one just because I want to see more OT Star Wars creatures made by HT and that won't happen if everyone passes.

I get the criticism though, it just feels like a bit of a rip off. I get the feeling it's either going to be sale priced in the future, or else so small a run that it ends up rare and expensive.

Agreed, felt like a huge rip off when I placed the order. Almost used $60 in rewards at SS to lower the price but with tax and shipping I would have only saved $20 or so. Ended up going with AE since shipping is free and there doesn't seem to be tax charged from them yet.

If I'm getting that landspeeder I need some Tatooine riffraff around it. Even the SS jawas are on waitlist now and given the quick disappearance of the Solo figures and Krennic, these might not last long either.

Then again maybe if SS reads this thread they will do another run :lol

if SS reads this thread

:lol

I remember when they use to frequent this board. Long ago. Nothing lasts.

There must be an army builder out there who has a thing for Jawas... because I bet 8x Hasbro 12'' Jawas would look more impressive then 2x HT or 2x SS.

2x leading and 6x carrying an R2 unit.

Not seeing ?300 worth of figures here.
In fact it would be a push at ?150, given I paid a bit less than that for the Sideshow pair.

That video review makes this set look really disappointing, sadly.

Still, better deal than HT ESB Yoda. One character and a log. At least here there are two figures.

For Star Wars, I feel ESB Yoda was the biggest rip off from HT.

I am getting it. Is it a ripoff, yep. At this point
I am used to it. Two Anakins, just a different head? Multiple jedi Luke?s? Upgrade from ss to ht for most figures? They should include Advil with each figure because of how hard we get the shaft in this hobby. So paying gouging prices for a gonk doesn?t faze me at this point.

Good point. But I think the Gonk may still demand a premium, as many with the SS pair won't go for the HT one and just want to add the Gonk as well. I hope you are right, though!

Definitely need to check those out again. I remember when the initial custom was being worked on. Thanks for the heads-up!
I was actually considering picking up another SS Jawa pair but balked at the $200+ price. I'm holding on to my remaining Reward Points for the inevitable virtual SDCC announcement(s). If nothing grabs my attention, I may yell "Utini!" and throw them at the SS pair.

Really? This set takes the cake for me. I never had a problem with ESB Yoda. Yeah, he’s small but two head sculpts and a nice dio stand, plus I thought he was pretty well done.

This set is a joke at that price. It?s not really a figure set. More like a tiny, relatively simple figure and a slightly articulated box to go along with it. That being said, I?d still like to have a Gonk Droid in the collection. I just really don?t want to pay that much for it.

I?m sure they will pump out a set of mando Jawas too.
I really just want the gonk. The Jawa is an expensive bonus.

You guys should grab rustyj's custom gonk in the customs section - I believe he's charging about $100 and it's more screen accurate than the Hot Toys version.

It comes unpainted (unclear if a painted version will be available - possibly) but it's really just a spray of gunmetal for the body, metallic silver for the legs, and a basic wash for weathering. Really no skills needed. The HT gonk's paint is super simplistic anyway, and several details on it are wrong.

Other than the base and price I like this release. But $267? Nope. Not sure what they?re thinking. Glad I scored it a bit cheaper

Yeah both figures are quite decent - I think it's the price more than anything vs what you get that's the serious issue. Other than the leatherwork, the Jawa is a very simple figure and even the guy in the review is shocked how lightweight the gonk is - it's a hollow plastic box with ball jointed legs. So a simple figure with simple plastic box accessory for $270. Those stand covers are just insulting at that point.:lol

Yeah, I think most people justify him because he's a major character... but it was a 2 inch figure with a log and some twigs and an incorrect scaled lamp. Sadly, the second head with closed eyes was better than the main sculpt... but pretty useless on the shelf unless you want people to laugh that Yoda is sleeping.

Overall, I can see why HT doesn't do aliens -- they are not very good at it. Yoda, Maul, Chewie... all aliens, none of them reach HT's top sculpt list.

Yeah, while I actually really like my eyes-closed Yoda in his "lifting the X-Wing" pose (you get less "sleepy joe" comments that way:lol) I'd call the HT ESB yoda overall more in the miss column.

The main sculpt was indeed quite underwhelming and the ugh that little 6" scaled lamp (that they re-released with the DX R2?:slap C'mon HT...) was just crap and even the log stand was pretty lackluster.

I was originally leaning more toward the HT Gonk for the posability, and because I expected it to have the same solid, high-quality feel as their Deluxe R2. But if it's nothing more than just a cheap plastic shell then I might as well get the more accurate custom.

[...]even the log stand was pretty lackluster.

The vast majority of Hot Toys stands look like cheap junk to me and bring down the feel of quality, IMO.

They don?t spend much time on them and it shows; they look like cheap toy accessories to me.

The plain stands are functional and just fine, the Death Star grates were decent, but every time I see these half-assed diorama stands i wonder why they bother. These Jawa/Gonk stands being a prime example.

Yeah I'm in on the Rustyj Gonk. I do disagree also on ESB Yoda, $200 retail but you got 2 heads and the base w// floaty rocks. I'm not nearly as bothered by the lamp as everyone else apparently lol, I never noticed it before.

In comparison for the AotC Yoda you only get 1 head and no dio base for $10 less.
