When Sunohc made his John Marston head, Rockstar sent him a C&D. And that was even a simple, unpainted, resin head, not even a 'finished' product.

They are super protective about their IP.

Then they need to get off their high horse and start licensing them! Bootleg exist because the demand for the product is there. We’d all pick up an overpriced HT figure if they made one. Sending C&D are useless if you aren’t going to cash in on your property and license if yourself. Even an unlicensed figure will generate interest in your game. I hadn’t played Last of Us until all the customs were popping up over here and that caused me to eventually go out and buy the game with no effort of the game maker’s marketing. :dunno

Probably half the reason Disney probably doesn’t do anything about all their bootlegs is because it promotes the brand for them more than fighting it would. We’ll all still buy official items but the third party products are usually enhancements to the official items. I’ve bought things before because a third party item fixed something an official product was missing.

Can't seem to find the preorder on KGHobby now...

Is this officially cancelled? No other means to obtain it? It'd be a huge shame given the intricate detail and work shown...

Still available on OneSixthKit, get your order in while you still can!

TNS still has it too, so they're likely the last 2 retailers before it gets pulled.

LIMtoys produce really good stuff, why they just license it? Money I guess?

I hope they shift a focus and make Okami from Sekiro.

Its not as simple as just getting the license for it

R* doesn't license out their stuff to outside vendors, God knows why given the extra cash that could be made from doing so.

I guess that's my thing when it comes to unlicensed collectibles. I totally get and respect a company trying to protect its ip for its own profit motives, but when it comes to companies that have no interest in merchandising their properties themselves, or licensing them out to third parties, then of course someone unofficial is going to step in and fill that gap, because the demand is still going to exist whether the company in question wants to cater to it or not. As such, I support those kinds of releases with no guilt whatsoever, especially as those looking to fill in such gaps in the market in the first place often do so because they are fans themselves, and want to give fellow fans the opportunity to have something that otherwise wouldn't exist at all.

Given its a cease and desist, won't that mean the figure won't be produced? or is LIMTOYs only stopping promotion and "open sales" of it? because I don't want a situation where it goes into preorder limbo with no production date in sight...

Any advice?

The C&D will only really curtail the order size by making the retailers close the pre-order early. I’m confident everyone who orders one will get one within the usual timeframe.

judging from the relationship between China & USA right now, i don't think the C&D will be enforced in CC toys home turf. However, getting the product shipped to US vendors would be a challenge as they can be confiscated. Toy shops might end up with big fines if someone reported them for selling these. The safest way is ordering it from vendors like Onesixthkit. You pay more for shipping but you are almost guaranteed the product should it make it out of the factory.

Well my order at OSK just changed to ‘processing’ so that’s a positive sign

They are not...Giantoy has it...you guys are reading the thread right?

Most vendors are shipping it and selling it from China to individuals, it's not going to get confiscated. The panic here is so over blown :lol

No, it just goes further underground. They can't stop them from producing it in China. The figure is called the Gunslinger, not Arthur Morgan.

How many C&D has Fanstoys gotten for making 3rd party Masterpiece transformers based off Hasbro's proprieties and yet they still keep making stuff. It's a whole different game when producing "bootlegs" overseas

That’s correct that C&D only means retailers have to close the preorder early. Tough luck trying to stop Chinese factories overseas. Just look at the bootlegged Crazy Toys who copied Hot Toys figures. How many C&D had they received? Probably one per day for the stuffs they blatantly copied Hot Toys.

What hurts me most is the chilling effect this will have on the chances of a Marston figure.

That dude is #1 on my Most Wanted list.

I remember this C&D stuff when the AF Dredd fig was up for PO. Did it stop the fig being made and being in my collection, nope. I'm sure the factories in China get these C&D notices all the time for all the rip offs they make, does it make a bit of difference, nope.
