I appreciate that. Neither was I. I think its the way it was written (or read) that seemed dismissive, as if I couldn't know that unless I used serious deductions. I often do serious deductions, just privately.

Anyway, I personally think the underscale is noticeable, all the moreso with the new Jabba. 1/2 inch is the differnce between someone being 6 feet and 5' 6 inches. In life, what height would you rather be? So it matters in 1/6th. Look at all the madness we've all gone through to get Vader down to the 13.25 inches he's supposed to be.

Anyway... I think you and I agree -- its sometimes hard to tell :lol -- but put simply: that the old Jabba is smaller than the new Jabba.

:duffIt most certainly is underscale - and I've never argued the reverse. It's solely about how noticeable it is next to correctly scaled figures (ie not next to the new Jabba,) and all I'm saying it's not all that noticeable, and that a simple tweak fixes most of it.

That (I think) is where we disagree.:lol

The point I was making about the old Jabba thread (that I went through recently because so many people were building palace dios back then) is that while there are people mentioning that Jabba as undersized, it's literally a couple of people, and the one who started it was arguing the Illusive Jabba was correct 1/6 size - so should be immediately discounted for idiocy (not coincidentally, he owned said Illusive statue.)

What you don't see in that thread is - in an era when standard SSC 1/6 figures were larger overall by today's standards (20% larger "bobble" heads and hands than today's figs for example ) is a load of people speaking as if they had just received a Medicom Vader that they were trying to display with regular 1/6 figures - "ugh, this Jabba looks too underscale/short." And many of those people are still active on here - people who would know immediately if it was clearly underscale. Which suggests to me that while the old Jabba is most definitely a bit underscale, it's not by anything really obvious with figs around it to a majority of collectors.

And the examples of say 14" Vader etc being too tall and the 1/2" making a big difference - it's not really comparable to this. Using your example, you stand next to someone who's 6" taller and you know it, but the difference between a male and female rhino in front of you at the zoo, both massive (one is 90% the size of the other,) isn't much, even if one is a little taller than the other if you take out a measuring tape.

The core point I've been making (and yes, I am keeping my old Jabba for my palace dio display so I have a dog in this fight as Mel Gibson would say:lol) - is that while it's undersized, it is not by much in comparison to other figures, and the vertical 1/2" shortfall can be mostly made up by placing a 3/8" riser under him which isn't noticeable (I already did it, and it's fine.)

One other thing I noticed in that old Jabba thread is that the Jabba figure (not the throne though, which was sold separately) was still in stock at Sideshow 18 months to 2 years after release. While that still happens on some pieces today, I'm not sure that could happen with this piece, even at $800. I imagine they made way fewer of these than the old Jabba - as someone said, the high cost may be because of a low run (it may also be because Sideshow are greedy ****ers:lol.)

I do have the thought that if it remained instock for a year you'd start to see those good deals like what the Probe Droid had, but then I start thinking of the Snowpseeder Luke, crazy at $270 but sold out before it even shipped (but I guess that's Luke and an iconic ESB outfit.) $800...:gah:

Wish Sideshow announced edition sizes like they used to so you could understand the risks/benefits better.:(

Yeah Id happily own this for like $500 ish, its nice enough but not 800 nice. And my thoughts on SS edition numbers are that I seem to recall the sizes being a downward trend, and with low numbers sitting in stock it started to become embarrassing, so I would completely believe the cost is now due to low production, but I have to wonder why they even bother anymore

Uh..nooo. I owned the Illusive Concepts Jabba and it was most certainly larger than 1/6 scale.

Yeah, I never gave it much thought at all with thinking it was underscaled. I mean, I became aware of it, but with Bib, etc. standing next to it, I was never "oh my god..this just doesn't look right." Now the Vader thing, that's certainly noticeable to me. Like I mentioned before, the only thing that bothers me with the HT one I have is the over-sized dome..but it's not a big deal.
..but the difference between a male and female rhino in front of you at the zoo, both massive (one is 90% the size of the other,) isn't much, even if one is a little taller than the other if you take out a measuring tape.
If me and my 'baby mama' were in a zoo exhibit..visitors would be wondering why the female is much shorter and 210% more mass than the male. Like....is she about to give birth to a liter of 12?

Yup, this is what worries me. I have to come to terms with a number that is $100... times EIGHT or NINE.:horror:lol "It's Jabba..." "It'll be $1500 on ebay in two years anyway" "Think about the Tauntaun and Dewback..." This is how I'm winning the battle.

I think I know my dream of 10-15% off this thing is just a dream, and the longer I wait, the further into the sell-out danger zone I go.

What's kind of cute is that in the old Jabba thread, as the pieces were shipped/reecived back in 2007 people posted their numbered base and someone tabulated this ginormous list of what everyone's number was (like up to 0-2000) in order. I wish I'd know about this place back then.

EDIT: Do they still do the "low stock remaining" thing at SSC?

I get the argument for passing on this if you have the V1; I almost bit the bullet and purchased one on E-bay 2 weeks ago! The seller wouldn't ship to Canada. Well thank God he didn't! Like I said in an earlier post--this is the most impressive single figure that I own. I have over 120+ 1:6 scale figures so that is saying alot...If you are a fan of Star Wars and don't have the V1 then beg, borrow, or trade to get this Jabba.

Oh shut up. You're not helping with your gloating and joy.:lol

Congrats by the way.:clap And... where's the damn pics?:lecture

Glad to hear this, my credit card is about to be assaulted next week. At least it's for good reason:joy

Love your argument, and agree 100%. I think you might have tipped a few Freaksters over the edge :yess:

I have the v1 and I still want this new Jabba. For that matter, I have the Illusive Concept one too. Seems like every decade I get a new Jabba, so I'm due. 1996... 2007... and now 2019. Somehow, someway, I hope to get it before the price rises even higher over time...

If that whole thing about SS doing these in batches of 25, then maybe there's hope as that would certainly drag out the availability and limit the price gouging on ebay...

Beware of paint quality reduction in future Sideshow batches if the batch thing is true. It's happened before and could happen again.

And if the do a V.2 re-release of this further down the line, beware the paint quality reduction as well. V.2 IG-88 was night and day different to V.1 and not in a good way.

What an amazing deal this would have been at $800 if it came with a new Bib Fortuna.:drool Now THAT would be a "deluxe" set. Oh well - surely they must be working on a new one to go with this set. It's not like I need another one - I have two already - but a new one would be a must.

1996?! Wow. Time has gone by. I just remembered I saw one at Steve Sansweet's house around then, so should have known.

IG-88 was one I had in mind. There is also solid evidence that the first run of the recent Darth Maul had a better painted sculpt. Probably other examples too.

I hope they do Bib v2 as well but I'm not counting on it. I'm planning to buy old Bib and try to spiff him up a bit. From what I understand he needs his eyes repainted and a body swap at minimum. Any other mods you would recommend?

The Gamorrean Guards will be even tougher. The old ones look a bit dated and don't seem readily available second hand. They also seem less likely than Bib to get a V2.

Really hoping HT pre-orders either Leia Boushh or Leia Slave this year. I like the Bespin figure they are doing but it was kind of an odd choice.

I’m getting really happy with old Bib. The sculpt is great.
I gave him a complete repaint, glued the back tentacle to the front one, swapped bodies, heavy water treatment and yesterday I gave the armor piece and gauntlets some real rust and a bit of gloss. He looks great I think.
I would only wish that someone would produce a custom tunic for him. That would complete him.

Boussh redo is such an obvious one for SSC to do... that they won't do it.:lol

As Slik has done, the key with Bib is to add about 1/2" in height and slim him (esp narrow shoulders) a lot - that alone improves the figure considerably The other thing is repaint the eyes red/orange, which is easy. It's one of those simplistic older sculpts from Sideshow where you can see the sculpted lines, but not bad. It's not a very "classic Bib" expression (he has some great/fun expressions) but it gets the job done as garnish for a Jabba set-up. The hands are great (very expressive,) and personally love the Kenner staff. It's an unimpressive fig out of the box that can be improved quite a bit without a huge amount of effort.

I would still love to see a new Bib because what he really needs is that deeply translucent pale pink/white flesh tone like HT Palps has, plus some great eyes. Getting that depth is hard to get right for a custom.

The key with Gammy is to raise the shoulders up - a lot (like almost to where his ears would be) - but there's other stuff like making the belts black and lightening his "brown-nose" with pale flesh/tan. Brown fabric behind the head to hide the neck helps. Those three things make it look a WHOLE lot better than the wonky-proportioned fig they released.

That Bib looks great, slikkerias. Nice job on the armor pieces. Did you fill in details in his skin, or is it one tone?

Thanks. I did quite a bit of detailing as the sculpt isn’t that pronounced in its details. But you can get away with just doing the eyes and it will be ok.

Yes, I’d love to see a new Bib. As you say, if they did the sculpt sort of like Palpatine it could be fantastic. [emoji1696] until then this will do.
...I’m not sure we’ll see many aliens with the prices and production costs we expect these days - unfortunately.

Slikkerias that Bib you have is looking great, thanks to you and Tali for the help.

Do the Bib hands, boots, and sculpt fit on a now standard body or do those need to be modded to fit? I need to start searching for everything I need. Bib is just too synonymous with Jabba to go without for long.

My question also. That Bib does look awesome!
