Re: Jakk's 31" Star Wars line

Wow! This looks like it might be the best Chewie toy ever... what is the size supposed to be?

Unfortunately that promo shot bears absolutely no relationship to the actual product.. run a search on US eBay for: Jakks Pacific 31 Chewbacca.. it's not pretty.. not pretty at all.. and there is no bowcaster.

Re: Jakk's 31" Star Wars line

That's for their 20" line, which are now at Target. I think when they do them in their 31" line they'll have their weapons.

Ok.. that is good to know.. didn't realise JP were doing two different, extra large figure ranges, that blog is a tad confusing -

JAKKS Pacific seemed to have found their niche in 31 inch tall figures that look like they can devour the bulk of your collection! THIRTY ONE INCHES TALL!!

I also found a post on theforce.net suggesting the 20" range was replacing the 31" range.. possibly so Jakks Pacific can hit a better price and maybe people have more room for a 20" figure collection.
:dunno

Looks like this might have been where that blog got its info from -

That is the one drawback to the 31" figures, they really do take up a lot of space.. but if the 31" Boba comes with a blaster, I'll PO that.. however for the Chewbacca, I think I will still need to see in-hand photos, first.

Re: Jakk's 31" Star Wars line

He looks great JKNO, did you pick up Vader also?

Thanks. Only the TK for me :)

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to jkno again.

Awesome Stormie collection! :rock

Thank you :duff

Great looking Stormy!.. thanks for the pics Jkno.

Disappointed JP's 31" Boba Fett does not seem to have a blaster and Chewbacca does not appear to have his bowcaster.. so unlike the Stormtrooper, I have not got those on Pre-order, hoping JP change their mind and include the weapons.. and the price of the 2014 SDCC 31" Shadow Stormtrooper on the aftermarket is just insane.. i want one, but not at well over $200.

Thanks :) The Shadow is nice but the regular is iconic.

Looks great! Where is this available?

I think most stores online have it. I got it in EU from SPACE shop

Re: Jakk's 31" Star Wars line

I'm a huge Stormie fan so I had to have this JAKKS Pacific's Giant Size Star Wars 31" Stormtrooper figure. The helmet is a bit too small, but so is in 90% of other collectibles, including high end Stormtrooper figures, mini-busts or statues. You barely notice that when you have it in hand(s) IMO. My issue when I got it was related to the helmet, which was made from a different material (PVC most likely) than the body (ABS), and thus not as shiny as the body armor. So I knew I had to do something about it: I decided to add a few layers of clear lacquer to it, and what an excellent idea that was!

It is easy to do it. Just need a cloth or an old t-shirt to cover the rest of the body and tighten it at the neck, clean up the helmet a bit (not to have dust on it), then simply spray some clear/transparent lacquer over the helmet 2-3 times - I used clear car lacquer in spray can. After each spraying you need to let the lacquer cure for about 30 minutes, then spray it again until the helmet shines. The helmet itself is somewhat porous, so the lacquer adheres to it without any problem, and becomes shiny.

I accurized the helmet a bit more by adding the black ear stripe/bar (wish I could redo the blue tubing stripes too - that could prove too complicated needing full helmet repaint), and repainted 3 of the ab buttons blue like in the movies, but for the regular fan these are not a must, the figure looks just fine.

This figure is big, about 80 cm in height, and it really looks awesome, especially if you modded the helmet as said above. There are a few more minor issues like the visible screws in the back, or the blaster which is not too accurate (it has some very accurate parts but others are not), but I realize why the collectors who got the clones and Vader so far are so enthusiastic about them.

This might be a toy, but it is VERY impressive in person, and for around $40 NOTHING beats it! If I knew how cool this was I would have paid double price easy. It has the presence of a statue and not of a simple figure.

In the end the Jakks Stormtrooper is FANTASTIC!

Pros:

- excellent price
- huge size
- reasonable accuracy for its price and size
- very impressive in person, looks more like a statue than a simple figure
- pretty sturdy and stable on its own
- helmet sculpt better than high end statues or figures

Cons:

- helmet is made of porous flat PVC, while the armor is shiny ABS - though this can be easily fixed as already said above, by spraying clear lacquer on the helmet - helmet being porous helps the lacquer adhere well, and this makes the helmet very shiny in the end
- visible screws in the back of the figure
- lack of complex articulation
- helmet a tad too small - but this unfortunate feature is present on high end figures or statues too
- helmet blue stripes placed too low
- blaster could have been a bit more accurate, but not a big deal IMO

Nice review.

If only the head were a tad bigger.

If only the head were a tad bigger.

At least the cod piece is big compared to SSC 1:6 Stormie :D

Anyway, most figures, statues and busts have the helmets a bit smaller than they should be. The only important gripe with this figure IMO is the flat PVC helmet, which really needs the modding I mentioned above. Otherwise it is a very impressive piece. People will not believe when saying it costs just $30-40.

Re: Jakk's 31" Star Wars line

Seems like a lot of the problem is no neck.

Agreed, the figure does look just a tiny bit 'hunched'.. but it's a 31in Stormie and it's cheap as chips!.. so I'm going to get one anyway.
:yess:

Re: Jakk's 31" Star Wars line

In fact the shoulder bells of the armor are too high.

Crazy question but is there any way to lower the arms? He'd probably also look better if you could add some neck to him.

EDIT: I'm not usually that guy who does the Photoshop but here is what he'd look like if you dropped the arms to where the shoulder bells should be and gave him just a tiny bit of a neck. All I did was cut off the arms and head and move them a touch.

My JP Stormtrooper turned up today.. :yess: ..imho, the slightly hunched look is much less noticeable, if you are not looking down at the figure.. the choice of a matte finish for the helmet is a tad strange (JP's Vader has a glossy helmet, however the 501st figure has a slightly different finish between the armor and the helmet).. but heck, it's a 31in Stormie!

Re: Jakk's 31" Star Wars line

Gottcha. I was confused between these and the 20inch figures listed. I noticed a Scout....WOW...........

Yup, I also was confused by JP releasing a 20in line of Star Wars figures, in addition to the 31in figures.. looks like Wave 1 of the 20in line includes a TIE Fighter Pilot, as well as the Scout
