For anyone who like Harry Potter, though the final HP movie is still a few years off, it looks as though there will be no void to be filled. There is another sesries starting next year in which a boy, Percy Jackson, discovers that he is a son of an Olympian God.

The trailer looks very Harry Potter-ish, but then, The same guy who directed Sorceror's Stone and Chamber of Secrets is doing this one.

Edit - Looks pretty good to me, so far.

Interesting trailer - the kid looks like good casting, although he's supposed to be 12 in the first book.

I just finished the last book of the series. It's no Harry Potter, seems a bit more juvenile actually. But the world is interesting and the characters are likable.

How many books are there?

Yeah...I felt the same way....I thought it was a bit juvenile as well....but i thought the way that teh author mashed up all the most famous characters into a whole new story was creative....I think the movie is gonna be a bit Spiderwickish...more for kids...but i dunno...maybe it is the Next Harry potter!

I didn't even know they were making a movie about that until this thread! Thanx Darth Cruel!:banana

i never felt necessarily that Harry Potter was more adult than other books like that, but what sets apart HP from all of them is simply J.K. Rowling is an absolutely A++ writer I believe. I'm not even talking about her characters or plots, just that she blows most modern day fiction writers out of the water with her style, prose, use of techniques. Shew is up there with Tolkien in how "fun" the writing style is, especially if you read aloud to people.

Even though I have not read the books. I do completely understand what you mean.

Some writers can make you fall asleep while describing an action-packed battle, and some can keep you enthralled for two pages while they describe a leaf falling from a tree.

Rowling is a spectacular writer and she did an awesome job in being thorough in her timelines and little details and such which is what makes HP excel.

New trailer - looks okay, but doesn't show any of the monsters that will make or break this franchise.

They were filming this when I was in Las Vegas at the end of July. I got to see them whip a Maserati around a turn pretty fast. That was cool but I'm not to sure about the movie in general.

I'm really digging the new trailer - I'm not a big a fan of the source material as I am of Potter, but these should be some very interesting movies. Here's hoping it's the next Sorceror's Stone and not the next Eragon.

NEW Trailer!

I agree with Dave. I saw the new trailer during the previews that played with "New Moon" and I have to admit that I was impressed. I haven't read the book, so I don't know much about the story aside from what the trailer depicted. The original "sneak peek" trailer (during "The Half-Blood Prince") didn't do much for me, but this new one definitely perked my interested.

Anyone else see it? I didn't think so. I have a feeling we aren't going to get the other 4 movies from this series.

But I enjoyed it, despite some really poor choices by the filmmakers on what to keep and what to lose and also on the structure. I'm guessing they were worried that it wasn't as popular a series as Harry Potter so you didn't have the audience familiar with the world like you did there. But a lot of the exposition was heavy-handed and unnecessary.

This kid would make a good teen Peter Parker though as has been discussed. I doubt he'll be tied up with Percy Jackson.

Saw it last night. it was entertaining, I didn't read the books but was with someone that did and of course they said the book was better. I loooooove Uma Thurman and Rosario Dawson

I saw it yesterday at the matinee. I agree with you Dave...its not horrible, but brought nothing incredibly new to the table. I doubt we'll see the series take off like Potter either. Rosario Dawson was the only memorable part in the movie and that was because of her sexy costume.
