Jackson's performance in he PT was a step above a mannequin... how can one expect an artist to bring the character to life if the actor couldn't?

IMHO the same way artists brought Darth Maul to life...

It can be done, come up with a good piece and folks will buy it. Just look at the Pop Culture Shock thread on the impending Kabuki statue. A number of folks commented they had no idea who this character is (including myself)...but the sculpt looked fantastic and they indicated a desire to purchase it.
