The technology is still not good enough - those pics look either shopped or the final details are much too rough.

And the cost is clearly prohibitive for most collectors.

Like others I believe there will always be a place for hand sculpted work - even once the technology improves and becomes cheaper. There are some nuances technology might never be able to capture.

It's the same old digital vs analogue argument that can be made on a whole load of things (vinyl still sounds better than CD for example).
 
One of the things that are making these look really rough is the eyes. It kind of looks like transfer paper using an ironing board. That's a lot of $ for something that's still not perfected.
