I made the mistake of storing loose figures in Styrofoam peanuts years ago and now I have a thin layer of Styrofoam gunk stuck to them. They are mainly early Movie Maniacs. After removing most of the visible Styrofoam a nasty residue is left behind. If you have stored your figures in Styrofoam, I would suggest you rescue them before it's too late.

Oh yes, that does happen. NEVER have figures or statues come into contact with Styrofoam peanuts for long periods of time.

Have you tried removing it with warm, soapy water? That should help, good luck!

What?! This feels like something I should have known, given that it's petroleum-based. I have two boxes full of loose toys in those peanuts. Thanks for the hot tip Plastic!

Some packing peanuts are made with industrial grade corn starch. You can actually dissolve one in your mouth, so I'm sure with the slightest bit of humidity those things would start breaking down on whatever they are packaged with.
