Re: My First 1/6 Paint Up

You should look at Small Studios eye work for eyes. He does them rediculously well, but it's not bad at all what you pulled.

Re: My First 1/6 Paint Up

Great Job. I'm new to this as well and it's better than my Medicom Batman head paint, put it that way. Will post at some stage.

Re: My First 1/6 Paint Up

Thanks guys, it was a few weeks between sessions for that guy. Ill probaby step it up more now when i can squeak in the time. The skin was done in multiple shades, (I had the hardest time trying to get a natural tone) using watered down acrylics patted on with a spreader brush. I used watered down reds for the blush and lips and blacks for the stubble.

Like I said, of anyone has any spare heads they want to send me for practice, I'd be more than happy to paint em up. :) doesn't matter what brand, etc. I've got some more here I can work on in the meantime.

Re: My First 1/6 Paint Up

Best practice would be cheap heads off eBay. Or scout some flee markets and garage sales for custom fodder. I used to find model kits I would paint up and then sell to classmates, when I was younger. Not a bad way to make a couple extra bucks. :D

Great idea... Why didn't I think of it? LOL

Re: My First 1/6 Paint Up

Lol, I didn't even think of it way back in the day until my mom mentioned it to me in passing one day.

But yeah, definitely post your practice work. Never know, might be some interest in some of it.

Re: Stshammgod's custom corner

Play Arts Garrus... (Mind you this is like 1/7 scale or smaller.) I had a compulsion to repaint it as it was almost a giant blob of a mess...

I've since put his HUD back on and put it back on the figure...

Re: My First 1/6 Paint Up

That's impressive for a first paint up! Wow. Way better than my first attempt at painting almost ten years ago. :clap

You could take this even further, if you wanted. A wash of dark brown to the hair would give it added depth. Also, a white dot on the upper right, or left, of each pupil would give it that extra bit of realism, adding a glossy varnish afterwards. Lastly, a small wash to the crevices of the ears and nostrils would give them a shadow effect.

Those are merely tips to further the realism. Either way, I must say, that's quite a job well done.

Good tips might implement them myself:)

Any progress on deckard did you take the advice?.
Nice work on the alien repaint:)

I did touch him up more a bit, and then I sold it! :yess:

Working on a few head sculpts from awhile back too. Gotta get those eyes down....

That looks worlds beter! :rock

Thanks man, yeah the paint was disappointing. I probably could have gotten a better result with stripping the paint first, but still, it's not HT, and it already immensely improves the look. :duff:

Re: Stshammgod messes with stuff - my customs and repaints

I took inspiration from MarfMaster's Medicom Yoda redux via SilentSurfer and came up with this:

And here he is in a test shot with the new, more dramatic detolf lighting....

That Yoda looks fantastic! Great job! That detolf shot looks like a picture of an actual puppet from the film.
