I was hoping to get a feel for where everyone else is at, in terms of what they'd be willing to do. For example, would people be interested in dressing up in a costume and filming themselves running around their local city? I've done this. When you do it, you meet a TON of people, because everyone wonders what the hell you're doing. You can't NOT meet people. It's actually frustrating from a productivity perspective. But it's a great way to find local people to work with. Before you know it... You've got a group of people in your area helping you make art. I see this as a springboard for THAT. So I figure, if we made a collaborative short film, as a group, we could contribute different parts from different cities and splice them together.

I'm thinking science fiction or horror, with costumes. This will help get over the performance anxiety of being on film. We should wear the same costumes if it's an invasion, or at least similar ones (we can each be a different alien species, but in the same uniform?) We'd have to orchestrate it.

This first project won't be anyone's masterpiece. It's a gateway into making art. It's like bootcamp. The goal should be practice, to become formidable as artists. In my case, I want to destroy Disney, the way punk rock and metal destroyed disco. However, you don't have to approach this with my level of intensity. It'll be fun!

I'd be interested in doing a number of things. I'd be willing to write something, or I'd be willing to collaborate with a group like at a writer's table. I'm still learning how to sculpt, but I can pull off something B-Movie quality for sure. Think Troma.

We should all film, obviously, by any means necessary. It'll have to be worked out.

I think we should aim for a Grindhouse B-Movie / Horror / Sci-Fi thing. Stylistically, B-Movie camp is the most forgiving when you're going through a learning curve.

I'd never have thunk of that running around in costume idea.. I guess you'd definitely meet like minded people, it'd be easy to see who responds (or thinks you're insane).. No guess work left!

The writers room could be interesting with the right people.. Or a complete disaster haha.. That would be fun to do, and probably easiest to get started in many ways.

Yeah amateur b movies have that whole cult following nowadays, but I'm not a fan. But for a springboard it's a good idea. Horror or scifi sounds good.

You're wrong. Most innovation is driven by competition. Art is no different. A lot of art is created as an attempt to subvert what came before it. Like Punk Rock. The Ramones talk about this, at 2:10



Anger at popular culture has always been a great reason to start making your own. Or you can sit back, complain and do nothing. Some people dream to escape, other people dream up a blueprint for their reality.

I'm not a fan of B-Movies either, but what I mean is that the bar should be set at a reasonable level while going through the learning curve. It doesn't have to be campy, and I'm open to suggestions.

Depending on how many people are interested, the goal should be to keep it simple. Create a short that is primarily visual without too much dialogue. All of the dialogue can be overdubbed if everyone is wearing a helmet or mask. The reason why an invasion plot would work as a group project, is that it gives us a reason to film in many different locations around the world... we can wield the production value of multiple locations.

I'm not depending on this group work. I have an idea for my own project that I've been thinking about, today. I'm serious though... I've been writing non fiction up until yesterday. I used to help a friend with his film school projects, for fun, and I've been getting into sculpting as a hobby. It's not a hobby anymore. I'm going to take this seriously.

I hate the direction our culture is heading in, with few exceptions. I miss Stanley Kubrick.

The culture is falling apart because a single corporation is purchasing all of our iconography, and infecting it with propaganda. As I mentioned in my original post, Disney also lacks quality control. Disney sucks. The culture sucks. The culture is falling apart because of the same irrational idealism within popular entertainment. The culture is falling apart because we're divided, polarized in a way where everyone is angrily meddling in the affairs of others. Kind of like what you're doing now.

Yep. There was a time when countries were actually pressured internally to allow for science fiction, because censorship stifled innovation. The original trilogy actually inspired people to create and innovate. The new trilogy? It's should have been called Gender Wars.

I for one glad these new movies sucked ass because it made me look at myself from a different angle.

The original Star Wars trilogy changed all of modern entertainment. They literally had to invent new technology in order to create it. The first Star Wars movie was definitely innovative.

As for whether or not Star Wars is science fiction, you could get into a semantic argument, suggesting it's more Fantasy than Science Fiction. I won't argue semantics. What I mean is, Star Wars depicts advanced technology in space, that sparks imagination for a lot of people. Call it what you will.
