True true Josh!

I'm thinking that when Sauron comes out, I may or may not feel that it ties with the Balrog for appeal.

And most people dont' need to hear me go on about the balrog.. hehe.

The main reason I like the balrog (and the reason I bought it to begin with) is not because it .. uh, it's not because it is some thing that was in The Lord of the Rings and looked cool, but because there were MANY of them in The Silmarillion and that's my favourite Tolkien story.. and Sauron was in it (although not in his armour like this..) and so I'll have representation of characters that were around in the time of the War of Wrath! AND ... THAT JUST PLAIN ROCKS!

hmm

Re: Sauron in September (WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!) newsletter exerp

Great.

One of the happy 9500:banana

Lucky person who gets 1/9500 (might be worth a bit):clap

See! I said September about a week or two ago and everyone jumped on me and said oh no....Nov/Dec! :whip

Oh crap! Now i need to really think about where I'm gonig to put this! My bedroom is smaller than a prison cell and it's full at the moment... I've still get my KoTD, Attack Troll (that I might cancel), Darth and Obi to come, as well as the Sauron! :thud

I might have to get rid of my bed! :lol

I've been thinking about putting sheling across my window frame... but i think that's going a bit to far!

Psycho Cenobite :hat

I'm very concerned about the paint application on Sauron. The recent pics from SDCC do not look nearly as good as the previous ones from ORC. Chuck even stated that the current paint job on the SDCC prototype was not up to par. Sideshow has been having some serious paint issues lately, IMO, and I'd hate to see this piece suffer due to the 9500 ES.

Lets just wait to get it before we start worrying, Elwood.

I know exactly what you mean, but until it's here, we have no way of knowing that what we get will be a shoddy paint job or good one.

Then again, now that you mentioned it, you've almost burst my bubble.

However, I myself will still be happy with it, however the paint looks.

It's the end!

I wasn't at ORC but I was at SDCC and it was the coolest statue that I have seen so far. The pose is fantastic and I thought that the paint job was great. I wasn't expecting it to look like shiny bright new armour, my expectations were met of what I figured his armour should have looked like as compared to what was seen in the prologue.

Speak for yourself. Where do you sleep then, Josh? On the couch? Oh wait, you don't sleep: you're on here 24/7.

Well, I have learned to slepp with my eyes open and still be able to type and interact on a message board. :lol

I wouldn't be too concerned with the paint application. They have waited a year and a half for this thing to get out I don't think they will let the paint job ruin this piece. I can't say what the one at orc looked like but I and others I talked to at the show had no issues with the paint job it appeared to be right on par IMO. Not sure what pieces your talking about SS having paint job issues but I haven't gotten any pieces where I would say they are having issues.

I'm with ya Elros. To me his armor looked exactly like what I thought it should look like.

Sorry man, the last thing I wanted to do was burst anyone's bubble. I just trust Chuck's eye for detail as much as just about anyone around. I was just trying to add to the discussion about the paint. We can get into Sideshow's recent paint apps in another thread, but many people have had problems with them lately. See the Predator maquette thread and the Luke 1/4 thread for more information on the subject.

Get excited again Nemo!

Not sure what pieces your talking about SS having paint job issues but I haven't gotten any pieces where I would say they are having issues.

I've seen many Rohirrim bust photos that look flat out horrible. The area beneath the chin isn't even painted at all. Notice how many people here sold theirs for that exact reason? Mine has everything painted, but it still looks strange.

The Luke 1/4 has some serious paint issues. The lips and eyes on many pieces look like make-up. Gruson had to go through 4 Lukes until he found a good one.

Within the last 4 or 5 months I have gotten the following with bad paint jobs:

1.Helms Deep (horrible paint job but I expected as much)

2.Golden Hall (incredibly sloppy paint and doesn't stay within the lines often)

3. Theoden (sloppy and I had a "good" one according to the guy that bought mine)

4. Mines of Moria (probably more of a bad artistic paint choice than the actual app)

Several Gothmogs look really bad to me also. As a matter of fact, Josh, your Pippin doesn't look very good to me at all, but it may be the pics.

I would rank Attakus paint a 10/10 on the paint scale in terms of quality and Gentle Giant a 9/10. Sideshow would come in at about 5/10. Why does Gentle Giant, a company whose product I don't particularly like, repeatedly have far superior paint apps?

Attakus will always have better paint due to the price, but I hope that Sideshow brings their stuff up to par. Look at the outcry concerning the quality of the Predator paint here:

Of course you don't have any problems with the paint so don't worry about it.

Maybe I need to go visit some other boards. I have seen only a couple shots where the Bust look bad or had bad spots.

Yeah, I have seen pics of the Luke and the paint on him hasn't been what I thought. I meant SSW more than just the SS items themselves. Still that being said Luke is the only one I've seen problems with of the 1/4th stuff.

Helms Deep just didn't come out right so nobody has a grat paint job on that. The Golden Hall was hit and miss from what I've seen. Theoden had a batch that just wan't very good sadly cause this is a very nice piece. Moria I wouldn't say this piece has a bad paint job at all it looks like something thats part of a mountain the inner workings that is.

Several Gothmogs look really bad to me also. As a matter of fact, Josh, your Pippin doesn't look very good to me at all, but it may be the pics.

I've seen a couple Gothmogs that didn't look so hot in the pics but in person they are probably much better. Its the pics for my Pippin I used the auto fix and that corrects the brightness. On mine other than the mouth I'd say he was perfect.
