Hi,

I'm new to painting and want to practice on an old vinyl 1/6 head. I had a question about prepping the head for painting.

1) With a vinyl head do I need to strip the paint off or can I prime over it?

2) what do folks recommend for stripping paint from a vinyl head?

Any help would be appreciated.

DO NOT! Use acetone on vinyl.
When i got into vinyl and resin model kit's in 2001 i was given
a Horizon cable model kit and i used acetone on it and it made the vinyl soft forever.

I would suggest oven cleaner like fairy power spray or i have been told engine de-greaser works too.

After all of this wash with a tooth brush and washing up liquid and let dry.
Then prime the surface ready for paint.
