Painting Questions

I have a couple of questions on types of paint I should use for a couple of items i have. I need to repaint some red superman boots to black and a Thor forearm brace to red and black. Just wondering what type of paints I should use for these, Acrylics or something else. I'd be doing them by hand and not with an airbrush. Any advice?
