That's strange. I read the books quite reluctantly at first. I had just finished the Millenium trilogy by Stieg Larson and was looking for another saga. I took that one almost by chance. Now, the books have grown on me, even though I concur with the chick flicks, romantic and sometimes too emotiona criticism that's been made about it. But somehow, despite all this, I enjoyed the saga and for once, the way it was adapted was rather faithfull to the the material...
I agree. I was the same way. I was surprised just how much I ended up liking this series. I'm actually sad its done
under protest I watched twilight for the first time last night. there was some Major lame parts in it but I have to admit I have watched worse vampire movies. My only Real complaint was that there wasnt any vamp teeth shown EVER. or really anything making me say "yes, these are vampires." they could have been some supernatural super humansfor all Iknew. I hope they Really step it up for the next film.
That is because Meyer's vampires don't have fangs. Just normal teeth that is super strong like the rest of their bodies. Plus the point is, they don't want to look like vampires. They want to pass as human, so I'd say by your reaction they did a good job.
Some major differences from the common vampires:
-no fangs
-no coffins (they don't sleep at all actually)
-sunlight doesn't kill them, they just sparkle
-transform people into vampires through venom
-garlic, crosses, holy water don't hurt them/bother them
-eyes change color based on feeding/hunger
-can only be killed by burning, dismemberment helps the process
-some have special abilities like mind reading or future predicting, not exactly common
-don't age (Dracula sometimes does based on when he fed)
-hearts don't beat (Anne Rice's do)
-
can't have children with other vampires
Thats probably not everything, but at least most of the major ones. I actually liked most of these changes as vampires have gotten so cliched that I've found most vampire movies/stories boring. This freshened things up for me.
