Need the low down on LED's!

So I am building a few custom displays and need to pick out what type of LED set up I want with them. I have read through a few threads but it is too hard to hop back and forth through them. I am basically trying to decide between something that is offered from a site like barlighting.com that is a packaged kit, or buying the components separately. I have little to no experience with electrical work and looks like buying LED rope may require some soldering... Let me know what you guys think and have had success working with. Thanks again!

Amazon -> Brand/seller LEDWholesalers. LED ribbon, connectors and power supply, some extra wire (20ga 2C - that specifies the copper diameter and how many conductors), and some wire nuts or splices. Done.
