Ah cool. I didn't know the xbox controller could be used on the PC so easily.

With Windows 7, I literally plugged it into the USB port and it automatically found and installed the drivers. That and many games' controller settings are based on the 360 controller's layout.

I actually just bought one yesterday and it installs like a champ...doesn't work with the games I have though. It will work with games but they have to have the option to use a controller. The newer games seem to have that option though and some games I prefer a controller over the mouse.

No, you can get a wireless receiver for the PC that you can then connect your regular wireless Xbox controller to. Though if you're using it for both then you'll have to sync it up each time you switch.

:lecture there is one specifically made for PC's that has a usb plug for the wireless receiver that comes all together.

EDIT: nice link darthviper, I didn't know you could just buy the receiver...oh well i needed another controller anyway.

If you don't happen to already own a xbox controller, but you own a ps3 controller they work as well. Not as easy as using a xbox controller, but if you prefer the ps3 controller their are ways to use it instead.
