You say the 1987 Joe movie crapped on comic book continuity but nowhere near as bad as the comics crapping on themselves. Only Cobra Commander's character got retconned in the cartoon, but half the roster for both Joes and Cobras were retconned into all having secret ninja backstories or a passion for battling eco-terrorism in the comics.

The cartoon got progressively weird but went out with a bang. The comics got lamer and lamer until unceremoniously ending with a team no one really cared about anymore.

Comic ended around issue 90 for me. I remember seeing cover after cover thinking WTF are they doing?! Then going into TRU and seeing the toys. I'll agree that Hasbro got extremely desperate toward the end, but there's no comparison if looking at the toon to the comics issues 1-90. Comics win.

Yeah, after issue 100 or so, it got progressively worse. There was only so much Hama could do with the hand he was dealt by Hasbro.
