Like many I was a little skeptical when I saw a Mattel pick up the Halo license. Being a fan of McFarlane Toys with all of his known details sculpting and especially paint applications I was to say the least nervous. But I decided to give them a shot and all 7 figures arrive today from Amazon. Well I'm here to tell you that I am absolutely blown away. The sculpting details are absolutely 100% all their and even better the proportions are more accurate than any figure I've seen made so far. The fact that the armor is attached makes these figures look exactly like they always should have been but never was and that is an actual person inside of armor. The only one glaring omissio from this line is the lack of a simple paint wash to bring out all of those details. I used my tried and true mixture of future floor wax acrylic mixed with black paint. By applying this simple wash the figure went from looking like a medium priced inexpensive Marvel legends figure to something more akin to figures done by Japanese companies like bandai or even some of the neca 7 inch figures like the predators. If you're on the fence with this line I can tell you that even without the paint wash the figures are absolutely awesome but if you're not afraid to add a very simple little black wash they go from awesome to amazingly awesome.
In short is what I'll say.......... the sculpting is amazing the articulation fantastic the proportions are great and I even finally get to have weapons that are made of a harder plastic that don't need to be heated up and straightened out and unlike everything on the Black Series figures these weapons are not made of a mushy rubbery plastic that always looks deformed and bent.
I love them.

Very cool. This look like worthy successors to Joyride's early 2000 line of figures!

I'm curious - how is the hip articulation? It looks like it's only a swivel joint.

The black wash looks great as well, nice touch.

articulation is outstanding the hips completely pull out to the side and straight out much more than most figures that I've used. So there's no question the articulation all around on these Halo figures is the best articulation we've seen from a Halo line. P articulation is practically equal to play Arts Kai and much better than of course 3A. So no problems here with articulation at all. Anything to figure can't do has more to do with the bulkiness of the armor than the lack of joints. And no figure at this price point that I'm aware of comes with a butterfly shoulder joint so I can't fault them there. All in all it's a fantastic effort

Plus this line is giving us our first Linda! I have Chief and Linda in the mail right now. Would love to see a Warthog in this line.

I have a feeling this line will be extensive...all characters being covered.
Let's support it.

I picked up the Master Chief at my comic shop. Nice sculpting and the articulation is nice too. Wish they were a little taller, and the weapons seem a bit larger than they should be, but other than that they are very cool. I'll be getting the Air Assault Spartan and Linda later.

I hope Kelly is in series 2. The figures I NEED out this series are: Kelly, An ODST, Blue Elite Minor, Fred, and Spartan Buck. But mostly Kelly.

It would be great if they did armor packs and weapon sets like McFarlane did. It would be a nice way to get older versions of the armor, or variant pieces without dedicating a whole figure to it.

Or do deluxe sets with the base body of Spartan Male, Spartan Female and Elite with tons of armor parts and weapons.

How did you make the black wash? I'm thinking about trying it but have never modded any figure. A black wash seems easy enough.

The weapons are a bit large. Especially the smaller ones like the pistol. Way out of proportion.

Yeah, I'm thinking maybe a Magnum from one of the McFarlane figures may work OK with these, it might be smaller than it should be, but it would probably look better in-scale, plus the paintwork would be better. Might be able to use some grenades and other bits of gear too.

Also, I'll have to dig it out of storage to see, but that larger McFarlane Halo 3 MC figure statue with the shotgun and flood might be in-scale with these...

Make your life easy and grab a pot of dark wash paint from games workshop. They're for warhammer and other tabletop games, but the consistency of the wash is ace and eliminates any ratio error for mixing your own with paints and alcohol or water.

Looking good. I went ahead and bought some black wash and started making my way through the figures. Hopefully I don't screw it up!

Thanks for the suggestions.

repainted mine, trimmed some parts too.

Well Mattel UK have stated we wont see the HALO Warthog before Christmas over here :(

So bit the bullet and bought from the US Amazon and Damn what a Nice piece. In total of Warthog, Master Chief, shipping to UK and customs £90. Though bought a second Warthog last night for £60 so shop around those outside the US.

Very impressed with the detail and work. Not heavy and not fragile either. Gimmic cannon (firing type) and alas unadjustable mount. Though cannon does +/- elevation.

Figure Not overly impressed with and 12" my foot LOL Still however the weapons ARE 1/6th scale and be perfect for my custom ODST & Marines, plus ThreeA Spartans I have.

The Warthog was Never intended for the 12" figures as you can see way underscale Plus I have my own 1/6th Warthog underway Build.

The Mattel Warthog however IS perfect for the Play Arts Kai 9" HALO figures and 7-8" figures will be good typical humans too.
At present only have Play Arts NOBLE SIX. Though several Noble Team are enroute. Plus Play Arts 10"/11" Master Chief too.

Warthog is PERFECT for the 9" Spartans.

Anyway enough talking and more pictures.

As it arrives.

I have not played any Halo games (I do not play video games in general), however I quite like the suit/character designs from it, and I've recently watched Halo Legends and looked more into Halo's backstory. There does not seem to be too many collectibles out there (mainly action figures) and this mattel line looks decent and decided to get a cracked helmet Master Chief.
